FWIW they had the same spec with 1TB storage for $999 as well. The one i got was shipped from a BB outlet and had 3 battery cycles, only issue I could find was a small nick by the magsafe port. Great deal, but it's gonna be luck of the draw

The 16" for $999 popped in stock like 30 minutes ago. I was able to snag it even after spending time entering 5 different gift cards. It went out of stock as soon as I submitted the order so there was likely only 1 left.

I hope it is not a dud one that one of you guys returned but I have a feeling it is. Best Buy is notorious for playing musical chairs with returned products. I had bought a fair open box laptop in the past and had to return it because the WIFI had issues. Not an hour later, the BB I returned it to went from 0 to 1 available open box laptop, this time it was marked as EXCELLENT. So they didn't even bother to notate the problem for me returning it, upgraded the condition, and then put it back on the shelf immediately. I can't imagine they won't do the same thing if someone sends a laptop back.

I was thinking the same thing - any new stock that pops up is probably people (mostly from this thread) returning them.

Another random question - has anyone done reconditioned from MC? I'm trying to figure out if MC refurbishes it, or if it's directly from Apple. Would love any insight!

I've seen it gone both ways from stock at microcenter.

These refurbs are extremely hit/miss. Just from reading the comments on here and my own experience. I swung by MicroCenter just now. They have the same laptop for 1199 (16"). They had two. I asked to look at them. First one had keys that were worn down. Not oily but physically worn down. Other one looked perfect so I got that one.

My 14inch order arrived yesterday in a cosmetically new condition, as there's no visible used sign I could find from both panels, keyboard and screen. It could be a good refurbished job. Also comes with original MagSafe cable and Apple's brick charger both in new condition.

With that said, warranty though was expired with purchase date back in Sept, 2022. The battery has 40ish cycles but 100% health. smartctl showing SSD has 200hours power on time which is ok, but with about 5TB write, which seems a bit high for me (wife's 8 months MBA only has 2TB write but already in heavy used condition on top panel).

Still trying to decide keep or return... price wise it's a good deal though.

Open Box Fair I received had broken keyboard. One of the key won't work. Apple told and Rossman repair told me to gotta swap the whole top case for $300+

In my experience it's very hit or miss on the conditions at Best Buy. It's after all fairly subjective based on the geek squad member. I've gotten a fair MacBook Air 2020 that was immaculate. I've gotten an asus zephyrus 16" that was pristine but fair. If you live near a Best Buy, it's a risk worth taking.

I got my 16" that popped up in stock yesterday. Physically great shape aside from two small dents at the bottom. Not too big of a deal. 59 battery cycle with 99% health. Was originally purchased in 10/22 so warranty has expired. I'll try to contact Apple to reset. I think it's hit or miss but worth trying.

Received my 14" Macbook Pro. Super clean.

System Information->Power shows Cycle Count of 8 and Maximum Capacity 99%.

AppleCare+ expires July 14, 2025 - this seems like a nice bonus.

Upgrading from M1 MacMini. 8GB memory was killing me on the MacMini.

Good deal overall. About half the price of a new M3 MacBook Pro with the only down side being a M1 cpu versus a M3 cpu.

I just got a new monitor that has thunderbolt port and 90w PD charging with a usb hub built in. I love the single cable connection for power, video and usb hub (keyboard/mouse/camera/stream deck neo). Super clean setup.

Recieved my 14" Macbook Pro last Tuesday, but just now getting round to looking at it.

- 27 battery cycles
- 100% max capacity
- Original purchase date was Dec 2022, no coverage remaining.
- No physical damage that I can see.

Been looking for a Macbook Pro for a while, so pretty sure this one is a keeper for me.

Ordered 16" on 16th when thread was posted. Received in brown box and bubble wrap. Was already running Sonoma but that may be the norm for these - if not, should be easily installable if desired.
At first it looked like some scratches on bottom but turned out to be something on it that cleaned off and after cleaning it all up it looks brand new as far as the case, screen, keyboard, and trackpad.
Came with the apple 140w charger and an apple MagSafe cable as far as I know (it's braided if that helps its odds of being oem???). You can tell the charger isn't new by light scratches on it and if you laid the cable next to a new one you'd probably be able to distinguish which was which.
Battery showed 53 cycles and 99% capacity per System Information -> Hardware -> Power.
Coconut Battery says 97% capacity and that the battery's manufacture date was 2022-08-08.
Coconut also has an Advanced View (think you may need to pay for the Plus version to see this though) that contains SSD info - haven't researched this further nor seen much reference to it by others so not sure if good, bad, or ??? Have the 1TB drive and this is what coconut says about it:
Power On Hours: 81
Lifetime used: 0%
Power Cycles: 194
Data Read: 7.25 TB
Data Written: 5 TB
Probably better utilities/ways to assess out there - any recommendations would be appreciated as I have limited experience with macOS via Mac Mini's and the latest I had of them is a late 2012 with a mechanical HDD.
Warranty had expired in April 2024 - contacted Apple to see if they'd reset the date so I could add Apple Care+ - they had me send a screenshot/pic of the receipt via a link in an email they sent and they reset the limited 1 year warranty with no fuss/resistance and I have 60 days to add Apple Care+ which I likely will but haven't yet. I have no idea what the odds of them resetting the warranty are but seems it's worth a shot. May of just been luck of the draw on who I spoke to and/or that the warranty had just expired the month before and/or they just have mad respect for geek squad certified refurbished (j/k on that last one).
So anyway, my thanks to the OP and the others that subsequently contributed to this thread and slickdeals in general . . .

Did you call or fill out a form online? I'd like to get mine reset, but it expired in 2022. What wording did you use to get them to reset it? TIA

Can't duplicate the exact process at this point but here's the best I can remember/reproduce:
After setting up the laptop with my apple account I used it for this process.
Went to Settings -> General -> About
Selected Coverage Expired (there are different ways to get to this point).
Selected Chat & Phone Support I believe.
***The above should send you to the website getsupport . apple . com so I think you can just go straight there if you want (appears they have an Apple Support app too but I did via website).***
Signin with your apple account if not already.
Select Choose a product under View your products.
Select your applicable MacBook in My Devices.
Select 'More' in the What's going on? options.
On next page scroll down to the 'Or, tell us in your own words' option.
Start typing in AppleCare and you'll be presented with an 'AppleCare+ or warranty' option - select it.
On next page under 'See you support options' select Continue button.
On next page scroll down and should see a 'Contact' option of 'Call' - select it.
On next page I selected Call Now option, filled in contact info, and selected Continue
(may be additional prompts after this, not sure as didn't want to walk thru further and end up getting another phone call from them).
After completing the above call me process I almost immediately received a call.
Told them I just purchased a 'certified refurbished' MacBook that I'd like to get the warranty date reset/updated on so that I could purchase AppleCare+ for it (left out the geek squad part but they'll see it when you submit the receipt).
He asked when/where purchased, replied BestBuy, he asked if I could provide the receipt, replied yes, and then he sent me an email with a link in it to upload the receipt (I just took a pic of my receipt in my bestbuy account which includes the serial # and uploaded that pic).
He did his thing for several minutes (he kind of mumbled a few things now and then but I couldn't tell what he was doing and if he was having trouble doing it as in did the system easily allow it or if he was having to override and/or get approval to do it???) and after about 10-15 minutes he said I should see the date reset within 24 hours and then I could purchase AppleCare+ on my own.
I checked right after the call ended and the date was already reset and showing 1 year limited warranty with 60 days to purchase AppleCare+ option.
Hopefully that's followable and helps - best of luck . . .

Luck of the draw. I made my first attempt and the rep put me on hold. I thought it was so she could reset it. But she contacted the AppleCare department and they told her the warranty expired so long ago (late 2023) they could not do anything.
