Do yourself a favor and get it from Walmart on sale. $12 for a 3 year warranty so you can exchange it anytime you want (and stick drift sets in quick with my death grip). Highly recommend.
I've had two series 1 controllers and two series 2 controllers. All failed eventually in some way. The last one I had bought from Costco and they kindly gave me all my money back when Microsoft refused to do anything at the thirteen month mark. I bought a DualSense Edge instead and that's been working great for about fifteen months now. If you buy this controller, I highly recommend an extended warranty with it.
Everytime these deals come up I mention if anyone is getting this you better get a warranty. Something on it WILL break at some point. The controller is such a a great feeling control and I love the paddles but buttons will become unresponsive. My RB button only works 50% of the time and I mapped it to a back paddle for the last 2 years

Funny that you mention this because my friend had this EXACT same problem! We managed to fix it by disassembling the controller and swabbing the microswitch for the RB button with isopropyl alcohol. Way easier to just get an extended warrantee...

my friend received a new one in a brand new box, and the guy i was responding to above said most of his were also new. so i'm a bit confused. my thought was maybe when they are in-warranty they send them new, and out of warranty refurbished.

I believe their warranty info states they have the option of whatever they want essentially. As I understand it, if they have refurbished on hand that is what you will get. If not then it may be a new one.

Via phone or chat? How did you know your warranty was already expired? Did the rep offer you the warranty or did you ask about extended warranties? Did yours look used or was otherwise in a weird box?

My 14yo bought one and it arrives Wednesday and he's pumped, but now I'm starting to get concerned.

They come brand new but somehow the warranty was activated, but you just need to register it through MS, then you can chat them or call them to resolve the initial warranty and add on the extended warranty if you wish.

Register on Xbox.com with serial number. It shows the warranty dates.

My controller is roughly 2 years old and the rubber is coming off on the side and top rb button isn't responding 50% of the time. Poor QC imo. Get a warranty from someone reputable that will allow you to switch out when they go bad and you'll be good to go.

My controller arrived seemingly brand new but the warranty was expired as of 8/2023 when I registered it. Had to get on the phone with MS who requested upload of my reciept, no problem there. Now they are pushing back saying since the serial number doesn't appear on the receipt, they can't honor the warranty?! Anyone else run into this?

Update: they honored it but I had to argue a bit.

wow! a company liked verizon selling used stuff as new! Shady AF. I just received my elite 2 and warranty expired 8/2023.
I don't think they are used. Verizon probably purchased them in bulk and the license date was based upon the initial purchase. They have probably been sitting in a warehouse for the last year + and are now being liquidated. Mine showed up sealed and still in the box - no evidence it was opened/used and resealed.

I contacted Microsoft with my receipt and they are updating the warranty for me.

Hey, how long did it take for them to reject your receipt at first? I submitted mine a few hours ago and am worried mine will also get rejected for the lack of serial number. What did you say to sway them?

It was over the phone so it happened pretty quick. I basically just pushed back and told them this is my proof of purchase and can they please accept it, they put me on hold for a few minutes and came back to tell me it was approved

Interesting. I did it over the phone also, but was told a case had to be opened and it would require up to 3 business days for approval. Did you double check online to see if your warranty is currently showing up as active under your account with the receipt start date?

Microsoft Support has been a total nightmare to deal with every time I've had issues.

You didn't compete the order. Same thing happened to me and my buddy.

It is confusing because the page after you enter in all the payment info says congratulations or something of the sort but if you scroll down there is one final button to complete purchase or finalize order or something like that. Once you do that you will get an order number and email.
Nah, I didn't get any email confirmation after fully placing my order either. It arrived the next day but to this day I still haven't received any sort of order confirmation. Probably has something to do with non Verizon members / not having accounts, but very weird indeed.

Yes, the new warranty date is showing online for me. Also was able to add the extended warranty with no issues

I ordered one, and it arrived damaged. Verizon refuses to replace and directed me to MS for support through their warranty -- which is expired because verizon bought these in bulk 1+ year ago.
