We switched from Nest and have been very happy. At the end of the day, they're both just thermostats with some of the same underlying features.

Don't overthink this purchase - if you need a smart thermostat, this is a great option to consider
Bought this a few months ago, Ecobee customer service was very helpful/walked me through installing the adapter. We're very happy with this thermostat. Previously had a Nest and we think this is a great thermostat
If you've gone beyond the price adjustment period, buy the cheaper unit (must be exact one) and return it with the old full price receipt.

Can the Ecobee log historical data? Such as I used AC for 20 hours this month, last month I used 50 hours, and this month but last year I used 30 hours.
By itself, no. You get usage reports from their web site assuming you're sending it but it doesn't save historical data. There are apps you can integrate with this though that does that. I use beestat.io

This is disappointing, considering that my ecobee (3 lite) is by far the busiest IoT device on my network. I have no idea why it uses so much data. I'm suspicious of it's data collection, but too lazy to check.
Now that you mentioned it I haven't really checked how noisy it is. Can't imagine more noisy than my Roku streaming sticks heh. That said the ecobee does pull down weather data and depending on if you enable it also data to your local energy provider if you bought it through them and opt in on their optimization services. Pretty sure that's what eco+ is for. I don't use it.

Yes. Absolutely. Not sure what Jack is talking about. This is available through "Home IQ" on the web portal after a few days of the thermostat logging:

I used a Nest for years and recently switched to Ecobee almost solely for the integration with HomeKit so I can use Siri to adjust my temps. That, and I got it for $25 from my electric company. Okay maybe that second one was the bigger reason.

Definitely look into any discounts that may be provided from your utility or energy trust. All I had to do was answer two questions about my home and plug in my address to find out if I was eligible. Well worth the 5 minutes it took to get such a steep discount.
Overall- price aside, what is the better product? I also value the HomeKit integration.

When you say adapter, are you talking about the one that gives you the c-wire?

Yes. Sorry, I should have Googled/written the proper name. It's the Power Extender Kit that provides you ability to use a C-wire

No worries, the videos I've seen make it seem fairly easy, but I'm still nervous to be messing with the control board on my furnace lol. Glad they were helpful, I might be calling them this weekend when I set mine up!

Same here - the only reason I had to call them was the previous homeowner ran wires like an idiot and split/electrical taped some. The CSR I spoke with was suggesting I call an electrician, so I had to speak with them with terms "I know you can't advise me, but hypothetically, if X was done and someone attempted Y....." Lol. She got a few laughs and understood exactly what I was asking on their recorded line. They provided me with a link to upload photos to, so they could assess the setup live and guide me. Was not expecting that level of (free!) customer service

That doesn't work with Costco because they do returns in reverse. Meaning, they'll return the most recent purchased one. Two ways to get around that are: return the first one, then buy the new after. Or use a different Costco membership to buy the second one. (Can't use 2nd household card because the first one will show up since it's on the same membership.) You can get around the 2nd way easier but using a Costco shop card and not using your membership too

Suggest you check with your utility provider. In NY and NJ there are significant savings for similar smart thermostats in their energy conservation offerings. At one time the entry level thermostats were <$50.
Is the coned store closed now?
It seems that they no longer have a store with themostats and light bulbs?

My thermostat is one of those old 1960s ones. beige and round. I want to modernize and I hope I can hook this up myself but I don't know if I can
