Less expensive vegan competitors on the community wiki page of this post are less than half the price per gram of protein. That said, they are also unflavored.
Do not be fooled by the $10/lb price. This product is only about 50% protein, while most powders are 70% or more, making it a poor value overall.

On that list the best comparison is the Naked Pea Vanilla. That's currently $55.09. It's 2270g, which is 67% protein, or 1534g protein. So currently 3.63¢/g or 30% cheaper.
I think the palatabiility of the product matters. I add a scoop of the unflavored Naked Pea to the Orgain powder to up the protein content of my smoothies. Every time I open the jar of the Naked I gag a little. It smells awful. My wife couldn't even stomach the way it made my "bro" smoothies taste.

If you like the flavor and think it has value, buy it and pay the price premium. Nothing wrong with that.
If you don't and want to save money, the unflavored will give you all the gainz at a fraction of the price. Nothing wrong with that either.
Vegan/animal is the same. Many people care whether the product is animal protein or plant protein. Others don't. Those that don't rightly compare price across both categories.
Personally, I just want my protein and I'm a cheapskate. So, I compare everything, and tend not to favor expensive products like Orgain. I don't see their extras as being worth the price.
Btw, there was a recent canned chunk light tuna deal at 2.25 cents per gram of protein. Now that was slick! What cat doesn't love tuna flavor? Thanksgiving turkey is also great, but seasonal. I have several in my freezer.
It's a sad day in August when I run out of Thanksgiving Turkey.
