Going back to school for the fall and pretty torn. Go for this and trust the warranty? or use a student discount and get the new surface pro for $900?

The new SP11 is much better value IF and ONLY IF Microsoft's claims re Windows on ARM are correct. (2x the performance, 2x the battery life, etc...) We won't know that until people get their hands on the new devices in June and start posting their experience with it on Reddit. YouTube reviewers are unfortunately all propagandists. Their livelihood depends on MS inviting them to launch events, so they won't dare tell you about the negatives.

Does the new translation engine run reliably? We won't know until June.

Apple is the real dirty one though. They just won't invite reviewers that don't push their dirty propaganda. That's how a side button on an iPhone becomes "an amazing revolutionary innovation"...

Unless you're absolutely convinced ARM is the future or need the AI features just get this SP9 it's the same as the base SP11 just CPU difference

That's funny how we never see a bad review on YouTube for Google Pixel devices

The more Microsoft's Windows on ARM marketing blitz succeeds, the lower x86 prices will fall. Especially for older models. This deal just got better compared to a week ago. Even Intel is making significant improvements now that ARM is about to squeeze its market share and other bits.

Not a good price for a heavily used, thermal throttled device rocking a 2-yr old chipset, unless you definitely want to stay on x86:
1. The Surface Pro 11 that was announced yesterday at $999 for the 16GB / 256GB starting model, is 10% off already (which is weird or refreshing depending on how you look at it). All models are 10% off. That laptop is brand new. Should have 2x the performance and 2x the battery life of this thing for $899 brand new, and it has an NPU.
2. These are heavily used machines that were likely used at a corporate that upgraded after a year. These are NOT returns! My wife got this deal last week for $800. What she received was a heavily used laptop with a screen that has lots of water damage. (She is obviously sending it back.)

Get real, I highly doubt that BLUE Surface Pro 9s are heavily used corporate machines.

You're right. They are a color for children. Nobody will take an adult seriously rocking one of those.

My wife got the graphite one. It's a heavily used, scratched up POS with a heavily water damaged screen. You might get lucky with children's blue.

I have a SP X that I won't be getting rid of. I was really hoping that they would go back to the SP X thin and light version, when you could still actually use it as a tablet. The size and weight isn't much, but it's a huge difference on a tablet.

Totally. How is Windows on ARM? Do you run into compatibility issues with drivers, niche software? My x86 Surface Pro 7 couldn't find a driver for a printer just an hour ago. I imagine this sort of thing would happen much more often with an ARM based Windows machine, no?

Actually, I haven't had any problems. I owned the same device (SQ2, 16G RAM) back in the Windows 10 days, and had all kinds of problems. I couldn't run MS Office Pro Plus, or print to an HP JetDirect printer, so I ended up selling that one. I got another one last year and it's great with Windows 11. There are times that it feels a little sluggish when it's running an x64 application in emulation, but almost everything has an ARM64 version now days. The best part of it is the battery life, which is about double what I got with an Intel CPU. The SPX is the same weight as SP7 and earlier, but thinner and with the 13" 2880x1920 display. The Surface Pro 9 just got too fat.

EDIT: More bad news. Even though the Surface Pro whatever has an ARM CPU, it's also just as fat as the Intel version. What a disappointment.

That's quite interesting. Does the Surface Pro 11 ARM have a cooling fan inside it?

I haven't heard, but I would doubt it. Although, they left the "vents" on the chassis.

I saw a Youtube video yesterday that claimed that the SP11 is actively cooled. I'll be looking forward to the real world reviews. Once reviewers have their units in their hands, and the videos are not sponsored by MS.
