This is the exact specs I'm looking for - 32GB with 1TB. Anyone think I'd be able to get a better deal within the next few months pending M4, or perhaps some open box/refurbished deals? $2,499 is a pretty hefty for me, albeit doable…

Maybe during Black Friday. M4 for MacBook 14,16 I don't think will be announced until fall.

If you are okay with an M1 Max, this config (64GB/4TB) is only $50 more:

Thanks for sharing! I did see this deal from yesterday — I need some expert opinion on doubling the RAM from 32 to 64, 4TB, but stepping down from M2 to M1. Anyone think it's worth it?

I will personally choose 64g/4t over m2, as I play with llm (large language model) as hobby. It benefits from larger RAM (in apple silicon term, unified memory) way much than newer CPU m2 vs m1. More RAM and Storage will be more future proof in my opinion. I can't find any use case from my experience that M2 would bring a day and night difference. Might someone else could elaborate

M2 Max to M1 Max improvement is minimum.
I'd go with M1 Max + 64G + 4TB

I got this deal last year with the exact same model except it was an M1 chip. RAM, Ssd, size and price were all the same.

price matched it with BB to get the extended warranty but honestly wish I'd gone with a 14". It's a beautiful device and the screen is gorgeous but it's so bulky and heavy that I rarely carry it around like a laptop and the form factor is just too big for me to use it like a laptop 90% of the time. I've considered selling it and buying a 14" tbh.

If you're looking for a desktop laptop then it's a sweet, sweet device.

I bought the 64/8TB recently, upgrading from a 32/512 2018. I definitely would've gone for 64/4 if it were available. They let me open the laptop in store and it was like new condition. I use it for handling large data sets as well as personal files. I've already used 1.5TB. I just didn't want to think about dealing with storage. I'm really happy with the purchase and would recommend the M1 Max to anyone. M2 is definitely not worth giving up 32g ram and 3TB SSD.

ETA: the 16" is really heavy compared to my 2018 15". I wish I had bought the 14" because it has the same specs and is lighter than the 15".

Weight and form factor has been an issue for me too. I really feel like these make great "desktop laptops" but are just too heavy and thick to really comfortably carry around.
