This tablet actually works perfectly with Linux. The only issue is that auto rotate isn't working yet.
I'm glad something like this exists, even if I don't personally buy it. $200 to upgrade the RAM is awfully steep.
Two completely different devices, targetting different audience. Otherwise, people would have been buying gaming laptops instead of high end productivity laptops because gaming laptops are cheaper than those.

This is what I've been eyeing up. It can function as an external display when I'm out, It can handle gaming with performance just a bit higher than a steamdeck, it can run linux well.
When I have funds together for my next PC, this is at the top of my list with the Asus Z13 being below it, simply due to cost.
I like minisforum but that was a terrible timing to launch this at this price.
The surface 9 with the snapdragon will be better. The ipad pro is better.
They had to reduce the price to $899 overnight because of the surface,
Product is sadly DOA and its actually a good product. Next version with a different soc (strix , lunar lake or snapdragon) will be better suited for the market
I don't agree. This is comparable to the Surface with Elite chip in everything but battery life (and I doubt its gonna be that far off in that regard), and it will probably have better performance when plugged in. Most likely better gaming performance too. You can upgrade the SSD on the Minisforum much much much more easily. And once its older you can just use it as a portable display for something else. That Surface turns into a brick that you'll basically almost have to destroy if you want to try to fix it. Overpriced accessories, and I can all but guarantee it'll be easier to disable the AI junk on the minisforum tablet than a Surface one. Don't be surprised if Microsoft ends up sued by the DoJ again because of the shenanigans they're pulling trying to force their AI stuff (Bing AI integrated and also trying to force people to use Edge).

You do not know the gaming performance of the snapdragon. Lets wait before assuming the 780m will be faster.
Same for the plugged in performance if rhe apple silicon gave any indication that arm cpu fare better unplugged.
My point is that i would welcome the next version of this tablet with an arm cpu assuming that the x86 emulation is up to the task.
Re: the surface or any copilot+ laptop under $1K, i still believe they will run circle around this.
Again i want smaller brands to succeed but this is not it

I'll just say one thing, gaming performance does not just get better due to powerful hardware, it needs far better degree of tuning in the software, including Driver tuning for various game engines, API optimization and a lot of other things. Just take a real life example from Intel. How long they're trying to do it and how much they've spent? And yet, even today, their gaming performance are still inconsistant compared to nvidia and AMD (For AMD, both IGP and dedicated compared to Intel's alternatives).
if you think that SD Elite is going to do it just in their 1st iteration then you're greatly mistaken. It is daam easy to optimize some of the popular benchmarking software for your architecture and share those eye caching numbers, which SD Elite is doing till date. Even Intel does that too. But in real world, it is going to be not that rosy. AMD and Nvidia have multiple decades of experiences on that matter and SD is not going to overthrow them in just one generation.

Better at what exactly?
Specs wise, this stomps both Surface 9 and Ipad Pro. CPU is 2.5x percent faster than SQ3 on Surface and 1.7 x faster than M2 8 cores. https://www.cpubenchmark.net/comp...rosoft-SQ3
4x the ram and 4x the storage as well.

Have you tried using surface sq? That thing is a buggy pile of crap. How can anyone say snap dragon is going to be better than AMD chip. Not even debatable, test or real life performance. When has Windows ever been optimized? After 15 + years, Microsoft is claiming this will be the year they will finally get it optimized
OEMs are switching to more AMD based chips for laptops and tablets starting end/early next year models
Much like end users, they have said off the record, Intel chips don't offer enough boost in performance year to year.
7000/8000 AMD chips are essentially the same. If you aren't in a need of work/gaming tablet, probably should wait for next Gen
16g ram model, even if it's on the heavier side, mighty tempting, you can see few reviews showing you can play most games on mid settings.
Surface pro and minisforum can't be compared, the price difference is too big.
But if you must compare, performance will be better on AMD chip, better screen, finger print reader (I love this), only thing I question is the keyboard. I love the surface keyboard feel
Ah forgot, as far as I know, minisforum doesn't have a warranty facility in the states. If your unit takes a dump, getting it fixed will be a pain.
I'm going to start by saying I completely agree with you that the audience for a g14 and this tablet are completely different and shouldn't be compared.
However, in case you were personally shopping for the g14 or something equivalent, the 2023 g14 w/ 4060 has gone on sale multiple times at Best buy for $999. If you could catch it on open box, you could get an excellent condition for low $800s and fair/good in the $700s. I bought the g14 for 840~ open box excellent at Best buy a couple months ago. With that said, it hasn't gone on sale lately that low but the legion OLED w/ 4060 has been around 1000-1050 new. That's a comparable laptop to the g14 but similarly, should not be compared to the tablet. Wanted to help you/others out in case anyone was looking.

Great find op.
We are talking about the new surface with the snapdragon x elite, the latest version of windows arm that support prism emulation not the old POS surface with the sub par sq3.
I was hyped for this...but the elite x has got me intrigued. Perhaps when elite x releases and is promising, this device will drop in price. Not really a fan of some of the copilot options like screen monitoring/recall though. The plans around AI seems intrusive in this manner.

interesting, i didn't know they actually did get to that low at one point of time, i guess that takes out 1 leg of my argument
Well known for lacking customer support.... Check youtube reviews, you will see how crappy their support is.
