I would recommend the G14 since I recently bought one myself, and I managed to upgrade the RAM to 64 GB using a 48 GB stick of "non-binary" RAM (16 GB soldered + 48 GB DDR5) from here [amazon.com]. The laptop also has amazing linux gaming support, and runs pretty quiet. I also liked the fact that the webcam is 1080p and supports Windows Hello through IR. The build is pretty solid, and the speakers are awesome as well. I had a 16 GB lenovo with soldered LPDDR RAM and quickly hit the RAM limits, so regretted buying it in the first place. I would personally recommend this one due to it's expansion possibilities, and especially if you do coding + gaming on a regular basis. The display is also plenty bright at 500 nits, and it looks great in sunlight (it also has a matte finish that is anti reflective, which helps diffuse bright light sources behind me).

In case you do plan to run linux on this laptop, check out the helpful linux gaming community here:

The G13 that was $850 has a Ryzen 7 7735HS. The 3 in that 3rd digit means Zen 3. The $999 model has a Ryzen 9 7940HS, which is Zen 4. The Zen 4 CPU and 4060 GPU in this model are significantly better than the Zen 3 and 4050, so well worth the $150 difference.
RAM on G14 is expandable to 48GB where as the Acer is soldered on and not expandable.

This or the Acer Triton 14 deal for gaming? Sorry I'm a novice at this and will be buying it for a gift.

The Acer has mini LED, superior GPU, 1TB, and better quality control. The RAM is faster at 6000mhz, whereas G14 has 4800mhz.

The Asus is what I own but it requires a lot of tinkering to get temps under control.

Yeah if I upgrade this storage to 1tb and 32 gb ram, which would be the better pick afterwards?

I'm literally swimming in laptops right now. I ordered an open box Good for $820. As great as my OLED slim 14 is, for $820 I can't resist.

The downside to the Acer is that the RAM is soldered, so you have to be ok with 16GB for the life of the laptop.

I bought this about a month ago for $50 more. I love it and highly recommend especially if you just want a small PC that can do anything/everything.
If you want a long battery though, this may not be the one for you.

If I plan to upgrade the storage, will a 1tb storage with heatsink fit or do I get one without the heatsink?

Every time these deals come up, the deal says it's 2560 x 1600, but when I click on the link it says it is 2560 x 1440.

Best Buy has it listed as a 720P front-facing camera. Do we know for sure if it's 1080 or 720?

I bought it a month ago too. Using g-helper , I can get power drain of roughly between 5 to 10W (depending on tasks run), giving me very roughly about 10 hrs of battery, I have undervolt-ed CPU to -15
