Great machine, as long as you get one with reasonable backlight bleed. Backlight bleed is largely caused by the thin bezels, and the pressure from the machine's bezel pressure; a lot of these units (not all - I've seen a good one first hand) have bright areas that are even visible in a well-lit room when displaying black, at 50% brightness - example: watching a video.

I'd take this over the 2024 model that should be available in 6-months. OLED would be nice to get around their persistent backlight problems, but productivity-use still burns in rapidly on the latest OLED monitor displays, and of course the 2024 model has non-upgradable RAM (16GB is the base size for 2024, and may be all that Best Buy will get you for these sales), and goes from a magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis to plain aluminum. They also needed a third fan to help the limited cooling potential in the 2024 model.

IMO, this is the machine to get in a 14-inch today. Especially with G-Helper installed to kill off Armory crate, greatly dropping the idle power usage of the machine, and providing additional "undervolting." 5GHz all-core under CPU load is possible on this G14, at 78W CPU power draw. Of course this tapers off as TDP is pulled with the GPU loaded.
Asus please send the USA the darker grey/black versions of the G14!!!!

This was the holiday sale price for the outgoing G14. New 2024 models will be more premium but probably won't be discounted for a while.

As someone who agrees with everything you said but doesn't know how to do the last customization bits (under bolting, etc) can you share a link/resource on how best to setup the g14?

I would rather a 16" qhd screen but I'm tempted with this one due to it's nice brightness and lightweight design. Plus, white is really cool..

But before pulling the trigger I'm curious to know how many m.2 slots this guy has?

Also, battery life says up to 10 hrs - assuming that's with general use and not gaming. Can anyone confirm from personal experience just how good the battery life is?

I have an A15 Tuf 4050 from Asus on the way for $980 including taxes.

Tempted to pull the trigger on this instead but the white would be difficult with my dog. Have a feeling it would be covered in black lab hair

That's the reason I had to return several Asus laptops last year, nice machines but really shite backlight bleed. Just couldn't get a good one with the Zephyrus with 3070Ti. Shame.

Previous deal with 4070 for $1400: https://slickdeals.net/f/17234131-asus-rog-zephyrus-g14-ryzen-9-7940hs-14-1440p-16gb-ram-1tb-ssd-rtx-4070-1400-free-shipping

Considering how small the difference is in performance between laptop GPU models, I think this is the better deal.

Unfortunately 16 GB soldered and only 1 NVMe slot makes it a no-go for me personally.

it's been pointed out to me that only one 16 GB is soldered and you can add another stick to the open slot.

Never again will I purchase an ASUS laptop. The ROG especially are known for charging issues (look at reddit, check out northridge fix videos on youtube, etc) and the last one I had overheated all the time, even when sitting on a cooling base. I had to send it off to northridge fix who replaced a part but the battery was ruined, the machine still overheated constantly, and was just in general, not a great machine. I do like their PC motherboards though.
