The only real issue is that it doesn't automatically search for a network after power loss, which apparently a lot of people couldn't figure out?

You just have to hit the wireless connection button once for it to reconnect.

My issue with a refurb is my older (4 or 5 year old running constantly) model has developed a high pitched coil whine. I feel like I'd rather get a new one next time it hits Costco for $99

Have a couple of the earlier model, one for each floor. They work well and have been spinning for years.

It cracks me up sometimes... my living room unit sits about 8 feet from the couch. If someone lets out the tiniest little squeaker of a fart it turns orange to say the air quality dropped and ramps up the fan. No stealthy gas in my house!

Which credit card do you have?
I had bought these with my AMEX platinum. They refunded all of them after I filed an extended warranty claim.

I'm sorry but this made me laugh. Not laughing at you at all for being proactive and trying to save more Chinese crap from ending up in the landfill, but laughing at wi nix response to your repair enquiry…."call a local Electrician". Ha, I have no idea why I find it so funny, but it is. What a Sh*t company, with sh*t customer service. Pay a minimum of $100 to have some guy who wires houses up, tell you that you're basically a moron for calling him to fix your highly specific electronic air purifier. I mean it's pure electrons and circuits right? Why not call an electrician? Heck, why not recommend a circuit board designers assistance or someone in the EPA who specializes in Air purification data to fix a $70 air purifier? It's just all so stupid.

We as consumers need to speak out loudly with our purchasing power against garbage companies like this now, before everything becomes one giant Corporation and we no longer have any choices. Everyone blames all of our current perceived problems to high inflation, but are totally blind to all the Corporate consolidation that has happened over the last 30yrs, and the possibility that price fixing, collusion, and Corporate profit taking might have more to do with it than any singular political party or individual.
IKR! Here is another example I posted in another deal on a Philips 5400 espresso machine. I had no idea that Phlips was now a Chinese company and man does the crappy customer service show it. https://www.caixinglobal.com/2021...in%20space.

I have had one of these for years with no issue. Has anyone who owns one tried any of the generic filters available for these? If so, which ones? I have always ordered the official Winix ones, but they are much more expensive.
Check out Temu. The ones they had were fine.

Why does my air purifier need WiFi? Why does it even need an app?

Probably a bearing on the fan, costs about $1 and 15min to fix
Agreed, or... You can just buy the brand new Costco one and avoid the issue. If the Costco one makes the noise, return it and get a replacement.

Ease of scheduling mostly. In the bedrooms, I have the air purifiers run at a high speed when the family is gone to work. Around, 4 PM, the speed goes back to normal. During the bedtime, the mode goes to the "night mode". On the weekends, the purifiers on the auto or night mode. All that is much more difficult to set up without an app. Having said that, once you set it up, you never look at the app.

Why have an air purifier to your internet? This smart tech stuff seems retarded. I just need a power button and fan speed, that's it. I don't need simple appliances spying on me.
Agreed. The smart shit is annoying. Hardly use it
Prefer old school remote like the older model

I bought two from the previous post. No complaints so far. Considering how much they charge for replacement filters, I still think they're overpriced.

Didn't take mine that long. Within a couple years the thing is louder than frick. It doesn't bother anyone else. It drives me nuts. Our other two units, one return, one new, are still quiet. I tried pulling the thing apart and lubing some stuff, but it's deep inside the motor and I can't fix it.
