I bought 2 already so I know it works.
NYC's utility is incentivizing switching from gas to electric heat pump water heaters by giving a $1000 instant rebate when purchasing IN-STORE as a special order for the coupon to be applied.

Works for Proterra as well
Yes. I told them I needed a special order and showed them the rebate bar code and they applied it for me.
Maybe Orange & Rockland county since they are also serviced by ConEd.
This comment made me realize Hurricane Sandy was over a decade ago 😂
Only MAGA could make a water heater a matter of freedom.

Yes, these are loud. They have compressors that kick on frequently when hot water is being used or hot water supply needs to be refilled.
The need 80sqft of space to work properly (~10'x8'). You can not put them in a small closet unless you duct them to the outside.
They will make whatever room you put them in cold.
Econet app is garbage. I haven't been able to get two separate accounts tied to a single unit but they may have fixed that.
Rheems warranty doesn't cover labor and sensors on them frequently go bad (Google bad evap sensor code A005). If a sensor goes bad you will only be able to use full electric mode.
Sensors are plug and play and Rheem will send you new ones but depending on how yours is wired/plumbed it could be difficult to access inside the unit.
Lastly, you will most likely need a pump for the condensate line if you don't have a drain accessible
That being said, they are good tech but not for everyone
Like I said I'll keep my gas Freedom 🇺🇸 water heater!
I remember that. I also remember my GAS furnace, oven and hot water heater all not working because the electric was out. The only reason the stove worked was because the igniters were broken so I had to use a lighter to light it anyway…
In addition to the efficiency of a heat pump, you can use the WiFi to further savings by adjusting or turning off the water heater when you don't need hot water (vacation, work, etc.).
Regarding federal taxes, the 30% credit applies to both the water heater as well as the installation cost.
This thing doubles as a/c for my garage. It's beautiful. 😄
For prospective buyers with a conventional placement of the water heater in the basement, this will help remove some of the dampness.
