Had it for years and use it occasionally. It has kept it's sharp edge for the most part.
Would purchase again.

Great hatchet. Got one for kindling and another in my camping kit. Keep the little blade cover it comes with or buy a sheath. Great buy and tempted to grab a third to have in my emergency kit in the pickup truck
Video comparison shows both are very similar. I'm inclined to go with black one as well. Thanks

Edit: nvm … someone had posted the Target info already.

I have a hammer where the handle is splitting at the base. One hard hit and that hammer head will be flying into my forehead or the closest window. I secured it with some duck tape. But everytime i reach for that hammer i'm assuming any day now. I'm also not going to blame the hammer for when that day comes.
the axe was once this price several years ago and I am still kicking myself to this day for missing out on it
it's been sitting in my amazon cart for years now lol

Fiskars used to make the axes for Gerber. I don't know if they still do.

Harbor Freight actually sells a well regarded hatchet with a more ergonomic handle:

If you do want to go one handed shorty, the IsoCore Maul has the power for splitting, can cut kindling (although some compromise), and hammers.

This is the review worth reading that compares the two:

I'm not saying her ER trip is the fault of the hatchet, at all. I was trying to explain that it's a nice sharp hatchet that will absolutely cut your finger off if you're not careful, lol. Love this hatchet! She could have done a hundred different things to avoid the accident, but it's not something she does often and she got caught slipping unfortunately.
With that said as someone else pointed out in the thread. This axe and the target axe (just picked mine up for under $20) are very similar. However the Target has a full plastic handle, while the OPs one has a sillicone grip.
I like the extra grip for safety but they usually tend to collect allot of dirt and grime and after some use begin to looking tathered. Smoth plastic will last longer in appearance but does slip when wet.
Will i kick my self for being a cheapskake for not spending the extra $6.xx? Most likely but i already have the Target axe in my hands while i can still cancell the Amazon order, oh well.
