In CA after July 1, the "service fee" will be illegal. So, they will likely just triple the price of entrées.
Never used it, never will.

GrubHub+ is pretty much useless now a days with 'zero' coupons and discounts and highly inflated (I have seen almost 40%+ more) pricing for the same items in a restaurant compared to in-store pricing. Not to mention, added tips for the drivers.

My Last GrubHub+ order of $62 it said I 'saved' $9.62 with Grubhub+, but there already a 10-30% markup per item than the dine-in/pickup price. And I still had $6.15 of 'other' fees: $4.15 'service' fee and $2 driver benefit fee (this is not the driver tip).

Items: $51.85
Delivery Fee with Prime: $0.00
Other fees with Prime: $6.15
Tax: $5.22
Driver Tip: $2
Total: $65.22

It's all smoke and mirrors. Delivery is free, but there is this other fee, wink wink.

$6 in "other fees" for a california order of $35. Nope. This is now completely useless.

Half of the fee is the bullbuckey where they want you to pay for their employee benefits, which they don't even give the employees. They just offer to give them a discounted and overpriced option to pay for them and nobody does.

Restaurants with those fees think that they're being clever with their "you voted for it, you pay for it" plan. I'm just never buying from those places ever again, even if they drop the fee.

Look forward to my Amazon Prime fees going up now because of this "free" service, that I won't use LOL
Why would this be any different? Amazon is already piloting a $10 fee for grocery delivery in my area (Sacramento). Not only am I not paying that, I'd have no need for prime anymore if they took the Fresh grocery delivery out of Prime. But it sure looks like they're going to.

I wish them luck in trying to get $240 per year out of people for what they got for $99 not that long ago.

The driver's being tipped is not even the problem with this services.
They inflate the prices while at the same time still taking a huge margin from the restaurants.
Many restaurant owners have horror stories of getting next to nothing after using food delivery services.

I have never understood why anyone would use these services! No wonder people are complaining about inflation.

A simple check on any restaurant site will show you that the same items are marked up 30-40% above the prices at the same restaurants own online store. It just seems so crazy to pay 40% more to order an item then pay more tacked on fees.

Me personally I do not believe in Tipping anyone just for showing up at their job. A tip is supposed to be a sign of gratitude for going above and beyond, not a substitute or subsidize any company to incentivize not paying their employees adequately.
Agreed -- I don't have a problem tipping IF the service is beyond what is expected as part of their job. But now there's this expectation of tipping 18-22% when all a server has done is bring your food out and refill once.

GrubHub and DoorDash are full of fees and mark-ups. I've had a few orders just not arrive even though the driver was shown on my street via GPS.

Yeah tipping in advance on:

1) The hopes for a correct order
2) The hope for warm food
3) The Hope for a reasonable timed delivery

That's a lot of hope to tip blindly đŸ˜‚
If something is screwed up, then you just use the customer support to put in a complaint. I've just started using GH, so I haven't had any issues, but at least with Uber, if there were any issues, they would refund my order completely.

Here's the thing, you're basically making it worth someone's time to pick up your order and deliver it to you. I never tip someone less than 5$ no matter what it is. Anyone thinking you're going to buy $3 worth of mcds and then tip $2 so that the delivery driver basically gets paid nothing to sit in traffic and pickup your order is delusional. They will just ignore your order and it will sit in the queue until it gets cancelled. You're paying for someone else's time. If that's not worth it to you, then sure, go pick it up.

All you've done is reinforce my original point that you are now subsidizing food delivery companies to not pay it's delivery guys adequately. Look at your basic food delivery bill on a $40 item, first the food is 20-40% higher than it would be if you bought it directly from the restaurant, then they tack on delivery fee (Hmm isn't this the pay for the driver) which itself can be another 12.5%.
Then you expect to tip $5 which is another 12.5%.

How anyone can think that a $40 dollar food item, should now cost an additional $25 is beyond me. So basically one is paying an extra 60%. No wonder people are broke. If only I could get consistent 60% returns on my investments annually.

You shouldn't be using this service if you tip cheap like that. Don't use the excuse of "they added other fees on" either. If the driver gave you good service and your food was on time, you need to tip better than that. Read the first line again.
Drivers shouldn't be working for this service if they expect the customer to prepay the difference between the wage they want and the wage they get.

Edit: Yes, I've prepaid a tip to have the driver not arrive at all. I've also prepaid a tip to have the driver leave half of the order sitting on the counter at the restaurant. I stopped using these "free" delivery services in 2020 shortly after I started using them in 2020, and have no intentions to ever use them again.
