Well they've been around for 15+ years so far so there is that. I had 2 drives fail on the 5 year mark, on the month, and they refunded me for both since they no longer stocked what I had. That's excellent customer service.

Bought two 14TB from them last time to be used in a Synology I just bought. They sound like popcorn popping and are loud af but ran a disk check beforehand that showed no issues. It's been couple of weeks not sure if I should return them or use as is

I had one of their 12TB fail about 2 months in... Still trying to get Allstate to follow up. Not sure I'd buy from this vendor. While they admit they're "pulls" from servers, they ARE wiping the SMART data... so you have no clue the history of the drive until it hits that sector that was flagged bad in the table in the past... joy!

To echo others: Not thrilled with the smart wipes, but so far the 2 12tb drives I bought from them several weeks apart have been solid.

If you store "important irreplaceable" data on these that is not backed up elsewhere, then that's on you. There is inherent risk in a used hard drive, not that dissimilar to a used appliance in your home.

Have you tried contacting the company to warranty the drives? Or are you going through Allstate just to get a refund? I have heard it is relatively painless get the drives replaced, with another refurbished drive of course.
Also, I've heard with HGST drives, the SMART data is intact. I know that they wipe SMART data on Seagate drives since I bought 2 of those drives.

I got a pair of 14tb HGST drives a couple of days ago. $110 each. Both had single digit power ons. One has 4 years powered on and the other just under a year. I plan on using these in my nas, backed up to older and smaller sas drives in a server.

You need to just directly contact goharddrive. Don't bother with that Allstate crap.
