Note that everything Asus installs an Asus service and junk software out of the box unless you turn off the BIOS options. Search for "uninstall Armoury Crate". Turn it off in the BIOS and remove all asus software.
It installs even with a clean Windows install after an FDISK of the drive unless you disable in the BIOS. And.... every BIOS update requires disabling the option. It's almost like Asus wants you to run their software... feels very malware like in action.
Good PCs other than that.

Best value notebook I've ever seen right here.
If you just need an extra terminal at the house for kids to do things like school work, this is perfect for that kind of thing!

Otherwise seems really great for the price.
I looked at a different cheap laptop, like $379 that had an IPS screen and it was much better - but also more expensive. I'll hold off until one with a better screen gets near this price.

I downloaded Crystal diskmark and found that the cheap generic 128gb NVMe drive was probably the culprit. Speeds were 696/112 Mbps. I'd already ordered a 8gb stick to upgrade to 16GB, and I also had a gen 3 NVMe WD SN570 sitting around unused, so I installed that today at the same time I upgraded the ram. Simple install.
That did the trick. The speeds are now 3287/2733 Mbps and between that upgrade and going to 16 GB, the system runs very crisply now even with a bunch of programs open. One more thing you will probably also want to do, is disable S Mode under the activation tab in the settings. I still think this is a pretty good deal as long as you upgrade to a faster SSD, and for under $20 the ram upgrade also makes sense.
