Decent price. I have six of these in the house, the oldest is about 11 years old now.

Schlage was good about warranty on one that I had issues with, so can not complain much. I would advise against using alkaline batteries, if they leak acid it has potential to kill the board on the unit. Rechargeable NIMH (eneloop) or Lion are the way to go.

How long were u out of warranty? I'm a currently a victim of the battery leaking issue. Such a timely deal, but u make me want to try calling in for a possible replacement. I've had mine for about 3 yrs.

arguably the best Z-wave lock out there. If you are in the market, highly recommend.

There used to be a lot of deals with these and the match handles for ~$200 but haven't seen them in a long time.

I did not get a warranty replacement on the battery leaking failure I had. I had a unit that had a bad touchscreen and after a brief request for troubleshooting they sent me a whole lock assembly,

I had 3 with exploded batteries due to nonuse for a while, only one failed the board. This happened a couple months before the above screen issue so I did not have the extra rear board/motor unit. I found a used one to fix as they commonly sell for ~$50-70 on ebay/facebook and I had good luck with longevity.

I did have to cleanup the terminals on the battery holder extensively to get the other two working, but they also sell replacement units.

I've been using this model for about 5 years. Really happy with them. Works just like they should. No problem linking to my Ring alarm. Can control them through the ring app also.

With Alexa routines I had have it programmed to ensure all the locks are locked whenever my alarm is set. Great if anyone in the house forgets to lock a door.

Got 2 of these ~5-7 years back. The symptom was the same for both: both started glitching after Z-wave was enabled and eventually went crazy that I had to spend a couple of hours to reset. Batteries would die in 2 weeks. I tried regular, rechargeable, lithium. I replaced it with an August lock. Z-wave and wifi with no issues, and batteries last for a couple of months or longer.

Other models and colors are also on sale for slightly more. Like matte black square which is 169. Might be time for me to finally get locks for the other doors in my house.

What's the deal with connectivity? Why is it cheap only when I select Z-wave as connectivity type and not with wifi or other?
I use ring system with alarm and have alexa but no z-wave. Will it work in this setup? Will I be able to connect to my Orbi router wifi?
TIA

I have been using one for about 10 years. It gets along pretty well with ST (smartthings). Rarely goes offline, and once it goes, it gets back online pretty quick. Remote access thru ST works great. Battery life is about 5 months (heavy usage) play along well with eneloop, Amazon and ikea rechargeable batteries. Once the batteries are almost dead it will beep and an orange led will come up. Wonderful with finger prints. After 10 years you can't see any marks that can give away your code on the keypad. My neighbor has the WiFi version and is pretty stable as well. They are not cheap, but the quality is top notch. Once installed you may need to adjust the door to be aligned with the locking mechanism.

I don't know why someone downvoted your question. I'm new to this as well and basically have the same question. I did some quick research and it looks like you need a Z-Wave capable hub. Samsung SmartThings used to be the choice but that's been replaced by Aeotech. Hubitat is another popular one. Expect to pay about $120 to $130 for one of these hubs. Once you have one of these hubs, you can connect it to Google Home or whatever if you want. But you don't need to because you can control it all with the app. There are mixed reviews on whether you'd actually want to connect to Google Home because if someone hacks into your Google Home then they are able to hack into your locks. Apparently the locks and Z-Wave operate on a stricter security protocol. But you'll basically need a Z-Wave hub for these to work unless you want to use them standalone without wireless connectivity.

Also one advantage of Z-Wave over wifi that I know of is that Z-Wave operates on a mesh network which means each device can communicate with each other and piggyback until it gets to the hub. So if you have a big house and your hub is upstairs, the downstairs lock can communicate with the main floor lock and then up to the hub. If you ever have connectivity gaps you can just buy a cheap Z-Wave lamp plug to put somewhere in between and that acts as a relay.

I've had 5 of the "dumb" version of this deadbolt (has the digital keypad, no key, and requires a manual twist to lock) for 9 years in Seattle and they have worked fantastic. They still look pretty much brand new even with the Seattle elements. One site that I read on recently compared the Schlage locks to Kwikset and said that the Schlage offer more benefits including beefier steel.

That's as much as I know so maybe someone else has better information. Sale ends midnight PST fyi.

Have had one of these since 2014, and it still works. Outlived the Wink Hub (and Wink brand) that I bought it to use with. With no hub, it will eat through batteries because I assume it's constantly searching for ... a hub.

My front door faces directly east, so it has seen plenty of sun in the 10 years of ownership, and frankly it looks great and there are no obvious signs of wear that would give away a door code. Not sure we even still have the key for it... have never once used it.

Yeah I got a kwik set one and the batteries died all the time, I'm going to have to say pass on this not into changing them every few weeks just to z wave my door. just went with a key pad and finger reader and called it a day.
