FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. If you don't reset device as instructed this may hurt the trade-in value. There is also no way to get your trade-in back if the 3rd party lowballs your trade-in.
I made this mistake with the recent iPad trade-in deal. I missed a reset step, and had messed up something on the trade-in form. In the end, I got $4 for my trade-in and couldn't get my device back…
TLDR; read, and follow instructions.
You probably missed it, but you can indeed get your device back if they lowball your offer.

Yes my wife is a Heath care provider, so I logged in to ID.me and searched for a Google store, generated the unique code, applied the code at the checkout, it took off another $100 , it's really sweetened the already good deal.

My pixel 7 pro really going strong, the only reason I pull the trigger, getting $500 for pixel 7 pro is really good value, plus 5 years of Google updates for pixel 8 pro.
maybe slightly more features, and on the top of all, if I want to trade-in for pixel 9 or pixel 10 in future, pixel 8 will definitely gets more trade-in value.
