FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. If you don't reset device as instructed this may hurt the trade-in value. There is also no way to get your trade-in back if the 3rd party lowballs your trade-in.
I made this mistake with the recent iPad trade-in deal. I missed a reset step, and had messed up something on the trade-in form. In the end, I got $4 for my trade-in and couldn't get my device back…
TLDR; read, and follow instructions.
You probably missed it, but you can indeed get your device back if they lowball your offer.

I was going to do it until I found I'd be downgrading my 512GB 7 Pro to 128GB 8 Pro.
But, for a $150 new phone and battery is a great deal.

Picked up a Pixel 8 Pro 256gb for $809
Had a Google One credit of $105
Earned $76 Google One credit
That would be a better deal.
That being said, probably not everyone would probably run into frustrating scenarios like this and can justify the upgrade.
