It's rated for 200 ft lbs or so. Prius is 75 ft lbs lug nuts. So yes on Prius.

Motorcycle is probably closer to 100 ft lbs. So it will be close.

Would need a fully battery and a little luck.

I'd use the 1/2". I have the 1/2" and it's just barely enough for lug nuts and stuck bolts. I'm not really sure what the use case is for a 3/8" impact. For small stuff I use my impact driver with adapters to 1/4" and 3/8" sockets. For big things I break out the 1/2" impact.

The majority of bolts on a car are rated for much less. Slack an extension and 10mm impact on that 3/8" impact and it will do the work on vehicles. Wouldn't use it as a full time mechanic. But home mechanic sure.

What's the point of having a 3/8 impact wrench if you have a 1/2 impact wrench? Is it the weight and size that makes it worth it? Is it so you don't have to worry about over tightening?

Weight, size, light vs medium duty, and it also allows you to have other sockets queued up I guess

I believe you can only "hack" when it's a buy x and get a free y. Since this is all one set I don't think you can hack

may I ask how you go about looking that information up? I know "google it" but is there a trusted source you go to for that kind of specific information? or do you go straight to googling the prius manual pdf?

I'm looking at the 1/2" driver plus angle grinder combo. I can probably live without 3/8".

I just searched for "Prius lug nut torque" and immediately got 76 ft/lbs. Torque specs are based on the size of the lug bolt being used on a specific vehicle.

Another option would be to use a tire shop's website, for example - https://www.discounttire.com/learn/wheel-torque

That's surprising to hear that experience about the 1/2". I had a stuck axle nut that I couldn't budge with a 2' breaker bar. The 1/2" impact spun it right off in two seconds.

I've seen tests of the 1/2" loosening lug nuts up to 400ft/lbs, so if yours is struggling, may want to try a new 4Ah or higher battery, and if still struggling, you may have a tool issue and/or highly over torqued fasteners.

If the lug nuts are on at spec, even a higher rated impact driver should be able to remove the lugs, yet alone a 3/8" or 1/2" impact wrench.

That said, many shops and many people don't properly hand thread the lugs and use a torque wrench when tightening, but use an impact wrench and hammer away on them.

The 1/2" will be more than capable of removing them...many have enough to literally break off the wheel stud, but the 3/8" SHOULD also be capable if everything is at or even near design spec.

*Adapters, especially narrow extensions, will leech torque from anything you use, so you'll get maximum torque transfer without one.

* Also only ever use IMPACT RATED sockets with an impact, and wear protective eyewear. Using standard sockets presents a high risk of cracking/shattering which can be very dangerous given the energies involved.

If you don't already have a 4aH battery (at least) to go with this 1/2" Impact wrench, I'd figure that into your budget because you're going to want one.
