Kitchen Cabinets

I'm preparing for a kitchen remodel in NJ and wondering what thoughts others can offer on not getting abused on the $$$ for kitchen cabinets. I'm going to be living in the house for at least another decade, so my intention is to buy something that will last. I'm open to thoughts on stores and specific cabinet manufacturers.
At this point, my research suggests the following:
HD and Lowes are typically more expensive than local competitors selling similarly priced items, but are great if you need cabinets ASAP.
Ikea is well liked and deemed a bargain option, though they use inferior materials and that despite the warranty, getting warranty service is frustrating, at best. Also, it sounds like they stopped their annual 20% kitchen sale.
I considered cabinets.com and various, online, RTA stores (I'm handy), but the horror stories online are enough to keep me away. Sounds like if there is a problem, the best case scenario is being stuck spending weeks or months either fighting with them or waiting on replacements.
Any wisdom you can offer would be appreciated!

I have used cheap RTA cabinets on flips which looks great as well as custom cabinets. Depends on your budget.
Ikea is good as well. Have them at my place and still going strong after 5 years.
