Seller includes an adapter in case you run into this issue. I bought the 12tb model from them, and it's currently in my NAS now.

FWIW, The model WUH721414ALE604 has power disable pin 3 support, which may not play nicely with NAS servers. There are ways around it, google "hack on the SATA connector pin #3"

E604 = 512e SATA 6Gb/s + Power disable pin 3 support + no encryption

Newegg will go out of their way to protect and enable shady/shitty sellers, and their support is terrible. Though this particular seller is fine, I'd try to find their listings somewhere else rather than support Newegg in any way.

These are basically used hard drive that's been used in data centers for about 5 years and they are more than half way through their typical life. To call them refurbished is a stretch, the reseller do not actually replace any parts like actuators, motor bearings, or refilling the helium.
That is why you have back ups. For home use and to store media. I don't see an issue with using them. They won't get the same crazy usage as in a data center. So probably last a bit. It's all a crap shoot then again.

higher capacity drive. has room for expansion. i have 8x 12tb for 80$ each. i would get these if i had not those drives. GHD on ebay usually get 3-5yr warranty.

I think this is a solid deal for someone who knows how to properly leverage these as part of a tiered data redundancy strategy. I would personally not put these in any sort of raid setup that can't survive two failures within a close period of time if you aren't also doing a full backup of that data elsewhere- but of course you're doing backups, right??

Or if this is being used for replaceable data - ie a gigantor Steam library.

I use it for personal videos (snuff films), but I also back up twice, one offsite. Same backup strategy I would use for any drive, used or new. For what it's worth, I've had the easy store Western digital drives I've shucked die but not these yet.
