All Wyze products after a certain date require a paid subscription to do anything (like 12-seconds video clip notification, some AI motion detection, etc). The v3 cam was before that date. Everything released after that need paid subscription for most basic features mentioned (like AI detection). The v4, the v3 pro, etc.
If you want to avoid paying for subscription fee, Tapo/TP-Link/Kasa camera is a better option at around the same price as this and NO more 5-mins cool down and lack of AI detection.
Tapo by TP-Link 2K QHD Security Camera, Indoor/Outdoor, 2024 PCMag editor's choice, Color Night Vision, Free Person/Pet/Vehicle Detection, Invisible IR Mode, SD Storage, C120

Works better than it did in the past. Not sure if thats a software update or the newer camera.

Check out Reddit for people's experiences.
Over the past few days, my camera has been offline - regardless of several power cycles for troubleshooting.
I'm glad I just use it to check in on my dog when I'm at work - I'd be annoyed if it was for anything important.
My Doorbell v2, floodlight pro, and v3s are working just fine.

My inventory of Wyze stuff, just going through everything in my Wyze App:
- 2 OG Cams - one near, one zoomed - both not powered on because they they cause my 2.4 Ghz wifi serious interruptions to the point where I can't get through 1 song over AirPlay to my older Bose airlink speakers. Turn off the OG Cams, network becomes stable again.
- 3 V3 Cams
- 2 Pan Cam V3
- 1 V4 Cam
- 1 Doorbell V2 - Doesn't work with physical chime. My original V1 did, though.
- 1 Garage V3 Cam + Opener - Contacts soldered to a "clicker" since it didn't work wired to the garage door.
- 1 Wyze Sense Hub V2 - replaced the V1 because the sensors all died after their batteries ran out.
- 6 Temperature Sensors
- 6 Contact Closure sensors
- 3 Leak sensors
- 4 Motion sensors - When I replaced the battery in one of these, it started making all-day false detections. Had to leave it unpowered for a week and delete and re-add to the app to get it working right again.
- 1 Wyze Lock with keypad
- 3 Smart Plugs - controlled by some of the motion sensors.
- Cam Unlimited Subscription
After all this, I think the worst thing for me is the one time I needed footage of a mail thief, there was a gap in the local sd card storage right at a critical moment. Any time someone rings the doorbell, the app is almost never able to pull up the live camera view. I figured it was weak wifi, so got a completely separate Wifi Mesh network just for cameras. No improvement.I wouldn't go as far as saying angry words like, "Wyze is garbage." -- but I will say that after all the time and effort I put into this system, I have no trust in any reliability, and the only thing keeping me from unplugging everything and throwing it away is my inherent Slickdealer mindset of not wanting to waste money. Sunk cost fallacy and all... I paid money and time for this stuff and I'm not just shutting it all off now!
I do have a lot of TP-Link smart switches and plugs though, which is why I'm willing to give the Tapo cams a try. I'm just not all that excited of having to re-build my collection, spending time and money.

You seem to know your wyze cams pretty well. Do you have experience with their outdoor cams?
I have two of their outdoor cams (a v1 and a v2) and the base station. I tried putting sims in the base station and in the cameras themselves, but for the life of me I cannot figure out a way to get them to record. Even just events don't get recorded. I get a notification that there has been an event and when I go to check, on the V1 cam I get a 7s clip, and on the V2 I just get a photo from the event, but no video. I've tried looking through every conceivable option I can find. Am I just still missing it or am I SOL if I don't pay for the services?
FWIW I have the indoor cams and they work just fine recording to SD.

Also, without subscription, I believe the notification you get is only a photo and no 12-second Event recordings. Let assume you have 24/7 SD card recording turned on. Even that, you can't click on the notification to bring you directly to the footage stored in the SD card. So it is an extra steps to memorize the motion trigger time and then go to the SD Card storage to try find the exact time that trigger the notification by swiping left and right on the time bar in the APP and not as easy to get to the exact second by swiping. And once you swipe and get to the location in the time bar, I believe you need to hit recording to record the potion of the video you want into a file that you can download from your phone/device to your PC(?)
