Hey all, the promo is actually just for this specific opener. You have to buy this chamberlain opener to get the $49 install. Other brands don't qualify.

For example, a genie opener still has the $138 install fee.

I'm thinking you would need to buy the new opener + the install (and have the person install the one you already have) and then return the opener you bought online.

I install these myself, at least they get done correctly. Most HD installers have been total crap since COVID.

I think this might be a case of you get what you paid for. I purchased a Chamberlain from HD 2 weeks ago with the installation. Long story short it took me nearly 2 hours and nearly a week on hold with multiple companies and several voicemails before I gave up and hired a company directly.

Since these are independent contractors, who really wants to install your opener for $39? I doubt HD is subsidizing it that much. So you're going to get funneled to someone who probably isn't that great to begin with…if you can even get a hold of them.

Can you post a picture of the receipt? I'm not seeing any information of how to replicate this deal - what are the exact steps to replicate this deal
The link in my original posting. This appears to be the price only for this specific opener.

Got free installation with the purchase of an opener from Home Depot last week.
Which one? Can you link it?

BEWARE!

Bought a chamberlin garage door opener as direct fit replacement as well as Home Depot 138$ installation.
Old garage door opener receiver died, remote no longer worked and motherboard was discontinued. Otherwise garage door opener worked fine.
Installer refused to install at 138$ paid installation price. He said rollers had to be replaced because garage door was not balanced and demanded another $200. Our garage was tandem so door was single width, lightweight aluminum you can open and close with one hand, perfectly balanced.
Wife took a day off work for the installation. We gave in because it would cost more taking a second day off work for another installer.
Total BS. If I knew, I would have installed myself.
Complained to Home Depot, and haven't heard anything back yet.
BEWARE!!!!

Go through the service part of the web site and go through the garage door opener installation list. When you buy the combo (opener and installation), the price for installation does go down to $25 (usually Genie promos) more than what the opener cost alone. Also it varies by location. I also know Home Depot and Menards uses the same 3rd party companies for their installation services, and some of those guys around here are a little sketchy. An example would be when I left him alone in the garage (hung door repair), the guy was more interested in scoping everything out in my garage (while on the ladder), than loosening up the spring.
Couple years ago I scheduled a home depot garage opener installation. The guy acted like he was coming but never came. Had to cancel, was not a good experience. Waste of my time.

sound like they will just come over and tell you

"your spring need to be replaced, look how they are twisted, we suggest dual spring, $300 parts and labors"
"your roller gotta be replace, $150 parts and labor"
"you don't have standard door size, so we need a extension rail, $100 extra"
"the sensor wire would not be compatible with your new opener, we charge $250/hr"
"we recommend solid single piece rail, that be $150 extra please!"
"your county need permit, $79 extra please!"
"would you like protection plan for your opener for $19/month?"

A properly installed garage door opener will last many years. However, the door itself has to be configured properly with correct tension. I wouldn't trust Home Depot to install one. Find a good local Garage Door business that knows what they are doing.

I did my replacement myself, wasn't hard or too time consuming, I'm not a super diy home owner, just an average guy. but Id have no problem paying $50 to have someone else do it

Just some food for thought, if your garage door can be opened easily one handed, then its probably an easy install for the third party as they dont have to mess with springs or rollers, feel better buying this offer. However if your garage door takes some effort to open, save the head ache and call a local garage door service company (first check reviews as a slickdealer) because this needs to be corrected by an experienced pro/diyer first, then and only then can you use a garage door opener.

Just saying this to let some folks know: I was able to install a Genie Garage Door Opener by myself using two ladders. The second ladder supported the opener while I hooked things up to the door and the 12 foot ceilings. It would be easier with a second person, but possibly by yourself. I am NOT a true DIY and know my limits around the house...hahaha.

Sometimes it can be a pain to be on standby for contractors to show up.

Now that I am older, I'd rather fork out the $49 and watch someone else do it for me while I'm drinking a cold one and saying 'Yep...'

Openers aren't difficult to install especially if you're replacing. That said, time has value. I replaced the one in my old house with a belt drive, took around 3 hours just because it was my first time messing with openers and I wanted to make sure I was doing it right. At $50 I'd rather just have someone else do it, frankly.

Hmm how do I just get the install without buying an opener. I have a new opener already.

Do I need to buy a new one with the installation and possibly return it?
return the original one
