It's the usual Southwest Air bait-and-switch "starting at $xx." All the deals are for places you don't want to go, or don't depart from where you live.

This kind of post should be deleted by mods. Sometimes it's nice to know a deal ahead of time as a deal post but this isn't even telling you what the deal is and we know Southwest deals like this are lukewarm at best. This should be over in a forum section of the website until the deal is live and we can vote on actual information.

Edit: It's worse than I thought, the original poster was staff too lol. I love this website but man it's not what it used to be. For those of you reading my comment later than others, I wrote this when there was 0 information about the actual deal, this posting started before Southwest had any info on the actual sale.

I'm trying to book a flight but the total doesn't show any discount. Where does it actually show the discount?

I know using the emotional response is easiest, but you have to understand how air travel works.

These "sales" are seasonal and/or to drive more to low demand destinations (or sometimes high demand, depending need). It won't work for all routes, all airports, all times. Select fligths, those are the key words.

Instead of planning around the sale, you should always shop around and determine which airline, dates, times, airports work best for you.

And if none do, oh well.
You can both be correct. Yes, everyone understands they don't discount everything. But just being up front about what they're discounting vs making you hunt for flights for a low chance the ones you care about work…. That's the entire reason people are lambasting this. It's the exact same as a car dealer saying they've got 60% off but that car already sold, or it has hail damage, or requires 25% interest rate financing with them… it's just the lack of transparency

Do you know how hard it would be to list out every flight & time & date combination and it's relative discount?

Granted, i'm not a big fan of these deals as a means to entice me to travel, but it's nice when you have a trip booked already and then the sale comes up and it happens to apply to a trip you booked and can get the difference back. Otherwise, it's not a deal like Home Depot putting a Dewalt Impact Wrench on sale for $50 with 2 9ah batteries.

I looked for flights from Portland to San Jose yesterday, it was around $500, way too much! I just booked a round trip for $137. Great deal.

I find it far too difficult to search on the app or mobile, so I was using the low fare calendar online, then switching to the app once I found the fare I wanted. And the app is showing different pricing! For example, on 9/21, the website shows a $79 fare from DEN-IAD, so I expected that when I switched devices and added the code, I would get that flight for far less. But instead the app and mobile website show the crossed out fare as $125, with the discounted fare as $71. I still bought it, but felt very misled.

And like many of you, most of the flights I checked came up with "Sorry! This promo code is not applicable for the selected flights."

You want mods to delete posts made by SD staff? Not gonna happen lol But, I get your sentiment nevertheless. This is a paid promo/ad anyway.

If a leg of a trip is discounted, there will be a strikethrough on the original fare above the new lower price when you are selecting a flight. If you don't see any original prices then there isn't a discount being applied.

I found a cheaper price for a flight I had previously booked, but the fare changed back to the original price when I tried to change it. Guess I have to cancel and rebook?
Edit: I ended up cancelling and rebooking, saving 16%.

Discount code is laughable. I have a trip in August, it costs me an additional $100 or 5000 points for the same itinerary using this discount code.

I don't know if anybody noted this before, but it appears discount only applies when booked through app. Using web page is easier but code doesn't work there.

I've been disappointed with Southwest deals the past few years but this is the real deal. Booked a Houston to NYC in August for $120 (that included a want to get away plus seat), and I'm looking at a Houston to Oakland one in September for around $240.

Big thumbs up.

These numbers are beating some spirit fares I've seen recently.
