UNLOCKING PROBLEM - Resolved on 9/5/24
As of 9/5, phones are unlocking as expected. Turn phone on, leave it connected to WiFi, and wait at least 5 minutes on unlock date.

Obtaining at Walmart is an option if you don't mind paying tax on the full price and IF you can find a store with a cell phone rep that is willing to help. (good luck with that). Only the cell phone rep can do the deal since they must do the order through WARP.
Steps for obtaining phone at Walmart: (from member Rhilb11)
1. Check your local Walmart has the phone in stock on the website/app. Should say pickup today.
2. Call your local Walmart with the phone in stock (yes, I know we are breaking the rules here), hit 5 on the keypad once you reach the prompt, and you should be taken to the electronics department. If no one picks up the phone, you will be redirected to customer service at the front. Customer service is often clueless or give the wrong answers so I recommend hanging up and calling again. Once you are connected to the electronics department, ask if the cell phone rep is available (or something along the line of activating cell phones). They should be able to give you answer (yes, in a few hours, no they haven't showed up in weeks).
3. Once you find a Walmart with a cell phone rep in the store that day, drive to the store and head to the electronics department. Before finding the cell phone rep, locate the phone in the Straight Talk section. No point of going through the process if the phone is not in stock. If you are fortunate, there will be a little advertisement square that advertises this deal.
4. Find the cell phone rep (they don't wear the Walmart blue vest) and ask them you want to buy this phone with the $45 Silver plan. If they start pushing a Verizon plan, you found the right person. You can point to the advertisement if they have it up.
5. If they claim the deal doesn't work, tell them to try anyway. I went through this process on 6/16 so it should work.
6. Once they got the phone and scan it on WRAP, they will ask for your first and last name and an email address. This email address can't be associated with a Straight Talk account. I recommend writing it down on a piece of paper and handing it them so it's easier for them to type it in. You need to know the email address you gave the rep for the activation process.
7. They will ask if you want autopay or a one-time purchase for the plan. Say you want the one-time purchase, no autopay.
8. Eventually, they will get a few sheets of paper and hand one of them to you. This should list the phone model, IMEI, the email address, and an account PIN for the account.
9. They will bring you over to the regular Walmart checkout. They should scan their WARP paper and the plan should appear ($45 + plan taxes). They need to scan one of the barcodes on the phone. The tax amount should update (based on $150) and the phone price will be listed as $0.
10. At this point, pay.
11. After paying, you should receive a regular Walmart receipt, the paper with the email and PIN, and another paper that has the airtime card PIN. YOU NEED THE AIRTIME PAPER for activation. Don't leave the store until you have it.
12. Once you are ready to activate (paper says 2 hours after purchase), open the box. The phone already has the SIM card inside. Inside the box there will be a red booklet with an activation code on it. You will go to Straight Talk activation website and type the code in (not the IMEI).
13. Straight Talk will then ask for the email and account PIN for an account. If you happen to lose the account PIN, open a separate webpage, go to the ST sign-in page, and reset the password using the email address you gave earlier. You can then create a password from there and go back to the activation page and use the existing customer info.
14. Eventually it will ask for the airtime PIN. It will be the second number on the airtime sheet. If you lose that sheet, you probably will need to go back to the store.
15. After that, the phone should be ready to activate. Turn it on or restart it and your service should be active. Make sure to follow the UNLOCK text procedure below.

How do you activate the phone before it arrives? Login to your account once you get shipment notification. Go to manage lines. You should see 'select line'. Under that there should be IMIEs listed where you can select and activate after entering your preferred zip.
Once activated, Text UNLOCK to 611611 (send it twice, it wont work first time) to confirm your unlock date. (approx. 60 days) You will also receive a text saying: Please call our unlock dept at 1-888-442-5102 so that we can email you instructions to easily unlock your device. There are NO ebay unlocks.
This is prepaid. You do NOT have to have a second month of service to get the unlock. Port out at your own risk before service expires.
This phone will work with almost all carriers (it has all the bands except for the fastest mmWave 5G spectrum) AFTER UNLOCK , however, it does not pass the AT&T IMEI check and is not currently on their approved phone list. It may still work with an active GSMA sim but cannot be confirmed until day 60 data points arrive and even then there is no guarantee your service would continue. After all, this is a Verizon specific model number. Suggest to check with an AT&T rep if that is your choice for service. Approval is subject to change.

For WI-FI calling:The Wi-Fi setting can be found under settings>network and internet>mobile network>active /default for mobile calls. Turn on Wi-Fi calling and enter your address.
To test: turn on airplane mode and turn on Wi-Fi. After setup, restart and your phone will remember to keep wifi calling active in a no or low signal area.

Uninstall all of the games and apps it automatically installed. They won't reinstall as long as this system app is disabled. Mobile Services is a notorious bloatware app that carriers use to install the junk you described. If you don't use Facebook services, you can also disable the 3 apps under Meta (App Installer, App Manager and Services) safely. Personally, I also disabled Swish, MySites, Games and Glance as I have no use for them. You will have to disable the same apps in case you set up multiple user profiles using the same phone. "Thank you for reaching out. I have received your IMEI via PM and I was able to check into this further. Tracfone, and many other carriers are now using Remote Unlock on some devices, this allows the carrier to unlock your device without the need for an unlock code. Your device uses this remote unlock method.
Since Tracfone stated the phone would be unlocked after 24 hours I would wait until that time has elapsed then try inserting a SIM (not a Tracfone SIM) in the device to see if it works. If it doesn't you may need to reach back out to Tracfone to see if something needs to be updated in their system to allow the unlock.
Unfortunately, Tracfone is the only one that can help with this concern. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

I sent 'unlock" to 611611 and got the 60 days confirmed.
So let it get dust for 60days and it automatically unlocked?
It has the cc that purchased with - it can no be removed without another payment in - it asks me to auto enroll. No need to do anything as I do not need their service at all.
Is there anything I need to do?
I just changed my credit card to a Privacy card with a $1 limit and deleted the card number

I called Xfinity where I swapped my sim with a Samsumg phone. Manilla person said that its already paired with the IMEI #! She also had my ICCID. So no need to provision? Is provisioning same as pairing?

Straight Talk/Tracfone/Total byV have their own way of doing things & don't swap sims on their locked phones.

1. Since Verizon takeover, StraightTalk doesn't let you use the same SIM on another phone. Instead, they ask you to buy a new SIM for the other phone and then process the 'SIM-change'. So technically this is possible.
2. The difficulties with this are that its hard to buy a $0.99 SIM alone without a plan activation at most places, and even then dealing with ST customer care to get this to happen seems to be a big hassle. Now, add to that you may have to work with them again after 61 days for the unlock - you're at the mercy of their interpretation of the unlock rules.
So seems like since there are no conclusive data points that suggest this would be possible and be done successfully, I could either,
(1) play it safe by not trying to move the number to a different device, or
(2) attempt to do this, risking the unlock potential - and report ~3 months from now (I'd activate this only after a month, and then there's a 61 day unlock period)

The percentage of dead pixels needs to reach a threshold of 5% or some level for manufacturers to admit it's not cosmetic but defective screen.
You can try your luck if you don't believe it and report back.
You can also google search for others' (failed) experience with a warranty claim of "dead pixel", "tint", "backlight bleeding", "non-uniform colors", and "non-normal color temperature" on screens of new phones, from manufacturers like Motorola, samsung, and apple.
Even if you are lucky that Motorola agrees to replace your phone, you will most likely get a refurbished used phone, instead of a new replacement phone. It's a daytime dream of getting an "unlocked new phone" as a replacement.
Retailers like bestbuy are more likely offer replacement of new phones because you can just return and re-buy a new phone if they don't offer replacement. Manufacturers on the other hand don't give you new replacement for whatever they consider as " cosmetic defects".
