Not saying that isn't a good deal, but that is the Atomic version, not the XR.

For someone who doesn't have a multi-tool but hears they're useful, how much better is the Dewalt vs the Ryobi that HD is giving away free with 4ah+2ah battery kit purchase?

I would think it really depends on what battery system you want to buy into, or have already bought into. Ryobi is more of a home consumer brand while DeWalt is more known to be commercial. Although DeWalt has several different "tiers" of tools...Brushed, Brushless, and then usually and XR model or something like that. Milwaukee does the same thing...either tools would probably be great.

I have an older DeWalt Oscillating multitool and absolutely love it...it has an LED and quick blade change which makes it far better than my corded Rockwell model. The battery lasts pretty long...it's usually a tool used for getting myself out of a pinch, not something that I used to rip lumber down, or for major demo work. Those would be other tools in my mind. This is great for plunge cuts, and hard to reach things, for fitment purposes etc.

Good background info and comparison. It makes me wonder where the Dremel [ebay.com](by Bosch) fits in the tiers? Granted, it's corded but if you're just using it around the house or shop, cordless may not be necessary.

For me, I actually prefer to not have the trigger speed control. I had a variable speed trigger for ages and just got a model with a button style and 6 adjustable speeds via a knob. To me it's way easier to be precise with a button that way your grip is consistent and you just have better control

Not the XR and no charger though (if that matters to anyone).

The battery in that kit would last about 90 seconds under load lol
It's still only $10 more so even if it lasted 15 minutes it's worth it which it doesn't, it actually lasts longer.
