Is this really that bad? I mean, three of the four categories do suck, but gas is huge. That alone makes it a solid quarter IMHO.
Long time Chase Freedom cardholder here and I gotta say this is gonna be a trash quarter with these options. However, it is hardly a surprise. For Chase Freedom, you usually get only 1 or 2 good quarters a year. The other 2 are pretty useless. You normally hope for a good Q4 when a lot of shopping is gonna be done.

Always the worst quarter of the year. I can usually do a good job maxing out the other quarters, but this one is tough. It'd be nice if they tossed in home improvement stores or something.
Agreed. This is perfect, Chase with gas in third quarter after Discover had it in second quarter. I just had a 3000 mile trip and two more planned for September. Then in 4th quarter I can switch to Citi Custom Cash for gas.
Restaurants are the worthless category for me. At 5% cash back it means you are only paying 50% higher than actual value.
Restaurants is good for me. It frees up my Citi Custom Cash for another category.
Does Costco count?
If not Costco/BJ's gas prices >>> 5% off any regular gas station.
Costco gas does for my Chase (Amazon) Prime Visa. Merchant Type: Automated fuel dispensers. Category: Gas. The charge description posts as "COSTCO GAS #(warehouse number)."
So you probably would get +5% if you've got the original Chase Freedom Visa and use it there.
In what way is saving 5% on gas a "terrible deal"? Who has a better deal?
Did I specifically call the gas part a terrible deal? Or, did I comment on this deal as a whole? Work on comprehension. Just because there is an OK part to this deal doesn't make it a great deal as a whole. 5% on gas isn't anything impressive at all either. I know better ways/tricks to save a lot more on gas.

You may still be able to PC to the visa freedom from a CSP or CSR since they're all visa. IIRC, they cant PC between visa and MC cards.
You may be able to convince a phone agent to PC from Freedom Flex to Freedom. If that fails, send a secure message once you log into your Chase account. Secure Messaging usually provides better outcomes for various inquiries.

Also have 5% back on Gas on my discover (discover matches cash back at the end of first year). 10% back on discover too.

No clue. I refuse to wait in line to save a few cents per gallon personally.
