No less than it tells drivers to stop parking in the bike lane or that they still need to pass with 3 feet regardless of a bike lane.

bicycle can occupy the full lane. they're not restricted to the bike lane.

or are you scared of a biker crashing into your Ram1500 and putting your life in danger?

Most car drivers are too dumb to realize this. A bicyclist needs to position in the bike lane to account sometimes for road debris, glass, rocks etc on bike lane or part of it.
Also when bikers go too much to the right side of lane, cars will pass so close to you like you don't exist and will run them off the road. For such dumbness, cyclists will position such that idiots don't pass them when its not safe for them (bicyclist). So stop being petty and show concern for others safety shake head.

Or you can carry an USB charger to charge it. Also I always have one of these in addition to my Varia RTL510: Fenix tail light [fenixlighting.com]. Serves as a backup or a second light. and has runtime of over 50 hours when blinking !

It alerts you sooner and also changes flashing patterns (with the lit version) when something is approaching you to alert them if they're not paying attention.

I'm wondering how the battery life is on this. I have the lighted version and after a long ride, 9 hours, it was dead and I had to ride home taillight and radar less. Will need to start carrying s spare taillight on those longer days.
This has much shorter life according to DCRainmaker: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2020/...eview.html

Does this tell bikers to stay in the middle of the damn bike lane, instead of riding on the line because it's 'more comfortable'?
I just ride in the middle of my lane on the road rather than to the side or in the bike lane.

Buying a unit without the light attached (which can change flash patterns to alert drivers, and explicitly let you know when the unit is dead by turning off) seems a bit pointless.
You are far better off buying the Garmin unit without the light and spending the money saved on a Cygolite Hypershot 350. It has multiple flash patterns including pseudo-random and is significantly brighter that the Garmin light. This is especially important for daytime use.

Got a similar unit with lights on my CD topstone. I had taken a 6 year break from cycling when I moved to Michigan, due to crappy and very high speed roads. I am about to cross 1000 miles with my radar and lights and have a Garmin head unit. Man I love this. It has never let me down and really helps me out on the dirt roads when hardly any traffic comes up behind me. I will never ride without radar again. I like the peace of mind with the lights and often use a camera in case I get hit, but I feel like the radar gives me the most important information to make decisions. I have to trust that no one is out to murder me for riding a bike.

I was carrying a power bank, but didn't have a micro USB cable on me. Had lightning, USB-C, USB mini, but no USB micro. Will carry my spare taillight in the future.

But all bike accessories are micro usb! Seriously though it's annoying.

LBS in my area are doing 25% off the camera version ($299 w/ discount) due to recent news of more cyclists getting hit by cars. Have to ask about it, but that's what I've just decided to get. Knowing a car is there is great until they decide to drive right through you because they're drunk. At least mom will have video footage to "sue the pants off them," as she put it.

You can get micro USB to usb-c adapter. Or vice versa too.

How many seconds of heads-up does this alert give you against a car/truck going at 45-50-60mph?

Is there something similar for motorcycles?

Plenty. Sorry I don't have an exact answer, but when it bleeps it shows the relative position of the vehicle and how quickly it is approaching. In my experience, this has always been plenty of warning time and, depending on the vehicle's speed, I can even wait a bit and dodge a few more potholes before having to move over.

Thanks for the calculator. On an urban street that I often ride, that's over 30 seconds. On a highway, it's more like 6, which is still more than enough time to react.

The warnings are really good. You get them in plenty of time, like previous poster mentioned you get to see on the display how quickly they are approaching, and you also have visibility whether it's a single vehicle or there are others too. I've had no false alerts and it's never missed a vehicle.

For rural cycling (which I do most of) I use it so I can cycle safely ~2-feet from the side of the road and then when the alert goes off, I decide whether I need to move in in a bit based on width of road, whether there is oncoming traffic, etc.

It's also great for left turns. Without it, you normally look over your shoulder as you're approaching the turn which can cause you to drift out into the road slightly as you do it. Having the radar alerts you to not bother looking over your shoulder, so you can just focus on maintaining a good path until the alert stops, then you double check over your shoulder and pull out safely.

It's one of those things that you don't realize how good it is until you have one. I've cycled for 50 years without one and thought they were just a gimmick. Once I got one, I realized how much safer it makes cycling.

How do we protect this unit from theft? Do we need additional accessories for that?
