Yes it can, I bought the Legion 5 Slim Gen 9 model on a deal posted by the same op on 5/31. The only difference with that model was it came with a 8845HS CPU and 16 GB DDR5-5600 RAM. the main difference with the 8845HS CPU is the addition of Ryzen AI, in which so far I don't see any benefit.

The bottom cover is easy to remove via 10 standard phillips head screws. It had a single 16 GB stick (sk Hynix) with an additional slot in which I added another identical 16 GB module for a total of 32 GB. There is also an easy to access additional NVNe slot available in which I added a 2 TB Samsung 990 Pro. The 1 TB SSD that came with the system was Samsung part number MZVL21T0HCLR-00BL2. The CPU and the GPU each have their own fan and there are four heat pipes. The included 1 TB SSD is a decent performer, 6.9k/5.1k transfer speeds.

Initially I was concerned about the 350 Nit brightness specification, but it turns out it's plenty bright. Unless you're outdoors on a sunny day with the sun at your back, there's no issues. The top is constructed of aluminum, the bottom plastic but it has an overall very solid feel.

RGB lighting on the keyboard is customizable or can be turned off. I am currently nearing the end of a six night hospital stay for foot surgery, so it's been my right arm here, I've used it several hours a day and am overall very happy with it.

There is one configurable profile for GPU overclocking. One thing I'll say is during long gaming sessions under AC power (in my case Cyberpunk 2077), the fans do work hard keeping that 4070 cool but both CPU and GPU temps are good. No issues playing games at 1440p with quality settings at high. The only bloatware that was pre-installed was McAfee and linkedin, both easily removed.

Lastly, if you qualify under the EDU/First Responder/Military discount program, you can get an additional 5% discount even after stacking the coupon codes, at least I did. They use ID ME for verification at checkout.

Actually there is zero benefit to running 4070 mobile above 115 watts and almost no benefit to running above 100 watts. Even 65 watts gets you 85% of the maximum theoretical performance.

Man these Legion 5 Pro/Slim deals just keep coming. I got my Legion 5 Pro a few months back, and I absolutely LOVE it. These are great laptops that give you a lot of bang for your buck.

My wife has a Lenovo IdeaPad which is all plastic construction, and in comparison this Legion is nicer but to be fair, her ideaPad was 650.00. The Legion's top is aluminum, the bottom is plastic but it overall has a more premium feel than her IdeaPad, and notably the keyboard feel is far better. In my opinion, it hits very well at the price point.

So, a nice way to tell if it can or cannot is if is DDR5 or DDR5X. If you see the X added, it means that the RAM is soldered and cannot be upgraded. In this case, it is DDR5, do it can be upgraded.

I wish I was looking for a gaming laptop. This seems like a pretty solid choice. But what I need is a mid grade 14/15in laptop for work on the go. Where are these deals? All I see Is gaming laptops.

Exactly my point. I don't understand the downvotes, but I'll be the bad guy this time.
I think the issue was your comment was worded sufficiently ambiguously that it could be taken to mean the opposite of what you intended, and nobody wanted to watch an entire YouTube video to infer your point.

But also even though 140 watt TDP is never hit on the 4070 mobile it's not like it's a bad thing. The hardware runs much more efficiently at lower TDPs. Less heat. Less noise.

I couldn't get the ID.me discount to work. It says I'm verified by also says the discount is for Student, Teacher, Nurse, Medical Provider, or Senior 55+. Maybe military isn't included.

I can't speak for the slim specifically but can say that their higher Legion models (5/7) are built very well. I mostly use MacBook Pro for work/everyday and am satisfied with the build quality of my Legion laptops.

You have to remove the space from the end of the coupon.

Also, it's back in stock.

I probably should have grabbed this deal, but I grabbed this yesterday for my Wife (https://www.costco.com/lenovo-leg...70759.html)

Not a slick deal necessarily, but the Costco protection does help me sleep a bit better at night. How bad did I do here? Any bonus points for the Pros improved cooling?

wow is it just me or is this a damn good deal. Smokes a macbook while at a third of the price. seems like a really nice screen too
When used as a laptop rather than a desktop replacement, a MacBook will run circles around it.

These also have ridiculously horrible battery life, like every single other laptop since the ThinkPad W530 which was rated for 24 hours with the snap on battery.

If you need a gaming laptop as a desktop replacement with some usage unplugged for less than a workday when performance doesn't matter, get this. If you need actual unplugged performance, or actual battery life, I'm afraid you could spend anywhere between $1,000 and $100,000, and anything you get that isn't a MacBook would suck.

Hopefully Qualcomm fixes this shortly and the market moved away from Windows an x86 Which are horrible for gaming anyway, besides the unfortunate fact that most games are made for the absolute worst ecosystem possible for gaming.
