It should be mentioned here that gold rims are elegant looking; however, the gold will wear down. I'm pretty sure rich had the luxury of replacing their worn gold rims, but, if you want to keep something like this for a number of years, definitely hand clean, no dishwasher. Having said that, I've had gold rims before and the metal lip is an interesting sensory addition. Something different if you wanna add a little something to your dining experience.

I'm not sure why, but the wine glass with the gold rim is on sale for $3.97, and the same wine glass without the gold rim [crateandbarrel.com] is $8.95. I personally prefer the gold rim, looks elegant IMO.

As long as it's real gold then there's no risk of swallowing it. Gold is one of the least reactive materials out there.

True. But it says hand painted gold. Can't tell if they mean material or color. Not worth it for a clearance glass imo.
