$170 is 44.5% of this deal…not insignificant

It's a relative thing. If one is thinking that the screen can be better that takes away from the experience. But if one never even had a handheld, the experience is awesome. I'm still in awe at the LCD, so OLED will always be there as something to look forward to and available if I decide I want more. But I'm honestly happy with the LCD and haven't lost that feeling of satisfaction. One of the secrets of staying happy as a SD'er is being happy with less, as constantly desiring more ends following the law of diminishing return as far as our complacency.

Great deal! Affordable and great portable console. Wish soon will see the same price for Rog Ally Z1 Extreme.

The steamdeck made me love gaming again. It is a very capable machine, powered by some of the best software that exists for game management. I don't get a lot of free time, bu when I do the steamdeck is what I want. No need for powerful gaming PCs anymore, especially if you're more into non-AAA indie games. I'd love to pick up an OLED version at this price, but the LCD version I have is serving me well. Thank you Valve!

for people wondering if the screen is the only difference no the oled version also has a bigger battery. i see them all the time for 500 on craigslist almost always mint im guessing a lot of buyers regret with these (not using it as much as they thought they would)
i think the screen and bump in battery makes it worth holding out on a sale for oled imo

If you are casual gamer and willing to spend extra then get the OLED, otherwise LCD is pretty good too. I bought the 64GB LCD and upgraded the ssd to 1TB, play it here and there, dock it to TV around 40% of the time, LCD doesnt bother me at all Smilie

I had a LCD and upgraded to OLED, no regrets for me since I use mine a lot. My husband has a PC but I'm a couch girly and we play games together. It feels comfortable in my hand and I emulate older games as well as Switch games on it.

Heck just hold out for Steam deck 3
You'll be waiting a long ass time for Valve to make anything that has a "3" in its name.

Will it drop more? I recall these were discontinued. It seems like they have a lot in stock they failed to clear out after the permanent discontinuation discount.

Can't wait until OLED is the normal for all of these types of products.

That being said - decent enough price.

deck was the best impulse ebay bid i ever did

you can get some amazing performance from several AAA titles (if they are programmed well). Ghost of Tsushima is gorgeous and runs flawlessly.

Heroic Launcher handles the Epic library and other things, you can do PS4/PS5 remote play as well via Chiaki4Deck.... and then there's the emulation which is just awesome.

I'm new to PC gaming and steam. I just finished modding Fallout 3 and New Vegas on my new PC, if I buy this can I play the modded version or would it be vanilla direct from steam vs my PC?

You could set up a modded game on the deck, but it won't be done automatically through Steam.

Just doing a quick search for it, but looks like you can mod fallout 3/nv on the Deck. I've been able to do mods for other games on it, sometimes it's different than on Windows, but modding Wonderlands (for instance) was easy.

I was going to upgrade an old computer of mine with a $200 graphics card, just so I can play certain 3d heavy/Unreal 4 engine platformers but nothing too resource intensive like Starfield. But with Steam deck going for $300 maybe I should just get one of these instead? How does it run being hooked up to a tv? I figure its just an hdmi.. does it run better docked? no difference?
