It's a good saw. But keep in mind it's huge and needs a lot of space in the back due to the sliding mechanism. Alternatively, delta/ridgid, Bosch and Festool have the sliding mechanism in the front so the saw can be placed against the wall.
If you want THE BEST miter saw stand ever invented, keep an eye out for the foldable mobile miter saw stand from Rigid. They used to go on sale for around $100 a couple times a year. Even at full price, it's worth it though. I use this thing multiple times per week and I don't know what I'd do without it.
Amazing deal! I've had this saw since 2017. It is a work horse. At this price, it's a no brainer if you need a solid saw.

Got one of these at HD on clearance deal about 6 months ago. It's a good saw. I remember hearing there's a recall and I've been meaning to check. But haven't noticed anything scary yet.
The recall is for saws made from 2019 to 2022. Unless they made a big mistake, Home Depot would've pulled any affected saws off the shelf long ago. https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2022...on-Hazards

How does this compare to the Bosch GCM12SD miter? I've been waiting to buy a 12" dual bevel miter this year, and I really like the Axial Glide System since I don't have a ton of space in the garage. I'd be putting it on a moveable stand as well. TIA!
I only have a small tool room and have to move my saw closer to where I'm working. I got a refurb GCM12SD for about $440 shipped a couple months ago after going around to big box stores to check out a bunch of display units. The Bosch feels really premium. Nicest tool I own so far. I like the glide mechanism (you can't wrench it while cutting without some deflection, but this is just like any other saw) and absolutely love how compact it is to have such ridiculous capacity. All the adjustments are accessible from the front except for adjusting some of the square/angle stops, so you could probably leave it against the wall for a while once you get it dialed in. I have not had any issues with hitting marks or things being in the way. No shadow line or laser, so I've just learned how to do it the old fashioned way which works just fine. I also got the crown moulding stop accessory for $25 since that's my main application right now, and it all works really well together and is easy to work with. I have more trouble with all my walls being imperfect than I do with anything related to the saw.

For the stand, I have it on the cheaper/smaller RIGID mobile mitre stand (AC9960). I got it for $100, but it can't stand upright unsupported with the saw mounted, which makes it a pain to move in and out of storage if you have to take the saw off. Otherwise I really like it. I'm hoping the bigger one that's usually $170 (AC9946) and can sit upright for storage will go on sale before my return period ends—or I'll just bite the bullet since it may be worth the easy storage premium for me. May be the case for you as well.

I have the Bosch and really like it. I got the stand and the saw from Lowes for $599 around this time last year. The Bosch stand is also really nice.

Remember its not just the slide mech on the Dewalt that takes more room. The bevel adjuster on the Dewalt is on the back too, so you're left reaching around to the back to lock/unlock it. The Bosch is on the front right by the miter lock.

I think if someone is using it on site, the Dewalt is a helluva saw. If you're using it backed up to a wall in a shop most of the time, get one of the sliding options.

Would this be the same with cutting agates and crystals?
I think cutting aggets and crystals might be dangerous with a saw like this, I've been behind chopsaws for years but always cutting wood so I'm not really sure what's different about saws for cutting rocks but I'd imagine them to be either small wet tablesaws or a type of bandsaw, holding the rock there will be impossible to do safely, a quick Google search says the saw you want is a lapidary saw and they are much cheaper than this saw, at least what I saw was from a quick Amazon search

For about $50-$70 it can be upgraded to be exactly like the DWS780 saw. Google is your friend.

define cheap? I spent about $90 on a kit. It isn't a laser it is a light that shows the kerf of the blade in its shadow. So, in essence, you'll have continuously light on your wood except for the kerf of the blade and that is where your cut will be.
Wish the kit were still $90. Not spending $125 on a light.

I have this. It's too big for my taste. I will eventually replace it with a 10" sliding

Fwiw I had an arbor laser on my DeWalt. I removed it. You could probably get better accuracy mount the lasers to the heads of sharks. Like others have said for accuracy lasers don't cut it, and when you do lean down to get pin point precision, the concentrated laser light blurs the area and hit you in the eye.
he asked for a cheap laser.....yea, the arbor lasers are not the greatest, but they are inexpensive and easy. i had one on my old saw. it was ok and served its purpose. the XPS light system is far superior, but its not cheap.
