It's the same price on Amazon. I ordered it didn't seem to work and returned it.

If the cameras do not emit an infrared light for night vision, they will be hard to find. 2.4GHz signals are everywhere these days, so it will be difficult to find anything hidden with such a device.

Actually it is looking for the reflection of a lens. The red filter is not going to make IR visible to the human eye. You can see a red glow on some 700nm LEDs and a very very dim red glow on 850nm LEDs but it isn't a beam of light and the filter isn't going to illuminate it. The red basically filters out everything but whatever light the device is emitting in front of it, which will be visible if it bounces off a lens.

The 2.4ghz detector is not for detecting 'wifi', it is for detecting a wireless camera emitting a signal. Putting it near a wireless access point would set it off, but it is meant so that you can approach a suspected camera location and hear the alarm get stronger as you get near it.

There is not device which can pinpoint a camera without effort (that is available to consumers cheaply, anyway) but what something like this does is let you sweep an area if you suspect you are being spied on with a camera.

Just fire up a Quest 2 in the dark in AR mode and you will see any IR Illuminators.

This is a whole lot of BS.
This is every single thing I wrote. Which one is not true?:
  • A 2.4ghz detector will beep more/louder when it gets closer to the source of a 2.4ghz signal
  • Camera lenses reflect light when a beam of light is pointed at them
  • The red filter in the front of the device is there to filter other sources of light
  • You can not easily see some IR leds and the red filter does not claim to make IR lights easier to see
  • There is no effortless way to detect a hidden camera

Instead of trying to find hidden cameras before you undress, it's much easier to say, "enjoy the show." Nowadays you have to assume someone is watching you wherever you are.

Turn off the lights in the room. A hidden camera with night vision will turn on its IR light. Your cell phone camera can see IR light. Use it to search for any IR light in the room. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6MnASsdWUg .

These stupid brackets again. Cameras can be wired or recording to memory card.

Which part did they write which was not true? They are speaking in overall theory (which appears completely correct) not testifying if the device actually works or not.

Now, I would think from a functional standpoint detecting smaller and cheaper (thus more common) hidden cameras, especially ones that run off SD cards would be extremely hard for any el cheapo device.

I'd love to see independent / real world testing of a device like this effectiveness in finding a hidden GPS / air tag, pin cams via their reflectivity, and perhaps hidden wifi cams from the signals they emit. Much like most RFID wallets this is more likely snake oil with zero science behind the actual product. But that doesn't make HappyAccident's statement "BS."

I could not find any flaws in your statement.

Many / most cheap spy cameras do not have IR but turn up gain to (attempt to) capture footage in dim conditions. Sadly the goal of most of these mini cameras is peeping, not for catching cat burglars at 2am, so IR is not needed.

I saw it cheaper on Amazon but the admin removed my comment and link and said it was because the same exact brand, same exact items same didn't have 250 ratings. That's funny seeing it's not a diff brand but the same. I'm guessing slick deals get a cut if you use the link here. The one from Woot has 98 reviews, the one from amazon has 98 reviews, but they removed the post. Search the brand on Amazon you will see and it's cheaper

We're all here to get the best deals, but sometimes deals can be too good to be true, which is why we have a minimum ratings rule for sellers on Amazon, similar to how you probably want an ebay seller to have some feedback history. The ratings minimum was lowered to 250 for Hot Deals and a new Marketplace Deals forum was set up with no minimum so that we can make more deals available while still helping SDers avoid wasting time on spam or refunds.
