Anybody here creating passive income using dividend stocks? Is it worth the hype? I am currently investing in CD's at around 5.2% on Treasury Direct and wondering if I should instead invest in dividends?

Just beginning to look into those and looking for suggestions or maybe real estate dividends Smilie

Great question and yes, I am doing that to a certain degree. Some of the energy stocks had very nice dividends, like Conoco (COP) but nowadays their payout isn't that great. About 3%. One of my favorites is Energy Transfer LP, which is stock symbol ET. Pays a 7.88% divi and that divi seems safe. Check it out - try to buy low by using limit orders. This one isn't going to takeoff like a technology stock, but its good for slow and steady. If rates are cut later this year, that can sometimes bring dividend seekers into the market, which could theoretically help drive ET up again.

I will look into it! Curious, why not tech stocks and what are the factors you considered while picking these?

Also, what made you get into dividends? Is it primarily better returns or is there more than that?

Having written that, it depends on things like if you are trying to build up enough dividends to retire off of, so knowing what your financial goals are, and around how old you are would be helpful.

HI sorry for the late reply
My 401k allows you to have a brokerage account and dividend stocks are great investments in a retirement account.
I look for stocks mostly reit that can give 9 to 10 percent yeld. HRZN is my go to because it pays its dividend monthly.
