MBA here who specializes in commodity pricing. I would call this more a case of perceived value and less supply/demand, since supply is virtually limitless. Substitutability is also virtually limitless, since the value is derived from entertainment, which can be found in nearly infinite products.

All that said, there's only one producer of Mario Kart, so it's not really a commodity at all and Nintendo has decided that the greater profit per unit at $30 outweighs the larger number of units sold at $10.

Until there's a competitor who offers similar perceived value at a lower price point, this is essentially a properly priced item.

Also, games don't go obsolete.

Went to the store. Was told 29.99 was a online price. Had to leave, order for pickup, and go back a few hrs later. -_-

This was a release Switch game, all it is (unless you buy the NEW tracks), is the WiiU version with all the WiiU DLC for it.....

This game should be $10, not $30...

I bought this on Mario day (March 10th) for $40 and its still unopened due to backlog. Could've saved myself $10 -_-

Actually, it's price fixing. Like LEGO, they control what retailers sell it for, or at least can advertise it for . It's why they have the "see price in cart" gimmick, because they aren't allowed to do unapproved sales or clearance.

Look up their FTC settlements
