Pretty good deal for a general use freshwater rod and reel. I've got a thing for shorter, ultralight poles, but this guy is beefy enough to use on just about everything freshwater. And those swimbaits will catch bass all day long. Abu Garcia is a good brand. It's a 7' pole, which may be longer than some are used to, but when you step up to a longer pole you can usually cast a bit farther. It's a medium fast action rod [norrik.com] which should give you good hook set ability while still being forgiving enough to not rip the hook out. This is overall a basic fishing rod that get the job done, and I trust and own Abu Garcia brand products so I don't think it will fall apart on you if you don't abuse it.

Have fun and take a kid fishing.

I'm for one as a backup pole for the kids. Most negative reviews pertain to receiving a broken product. That is not a pole problem rather than a shipping problem. With Walmart+, returns are easy. Worth a shot. Thanks op.

A few bucks less compared to the deal about 2 weeks ago. But the general consensus seemed to be positive on this.

In for 2.

Got these during the prior FP deal and tried them out over the holiday. As others have said, they get the job done, but I would highly recommend replacing the line it comes with. It regularly snapped reeling in 1-2 lb cats.

Is the 10lb line a bit much for this rod?

Is this sturdy enough to fish off a Pacific Ocean pier?

I've never done fishing before. I'm thinking of fishing in lake or off pier. Is it a good starter kit? What else would I need? TIA

How does this compare to the Sportsman Warehouse deal from a few weeks ago:
https://slickdeals.net/f/17569437-lew-s-american-hero-camo-spinning-combo-and-berkley-trilene-xt-line-20lb-270yds-34-95?
I like the lews combo better. I saw one in store and thought it was nice. Not $100 nice, but I would have been happy paying $60 for it.

Don't think this is suitable for saltwater fishing.

I dont know anything about fishing and bought two of these to surf fish in salt water off a beach. What makes them a bad choice for this? Just wanted to catch something with my kid.

Nothing. This is ok for surf fishing just remember to rinse with freshwater after every use. I have is rod and it's decent. Don't use it for surf fishing because it's too short. You can take your kids to the bay or pier would be good too.

How many pieces is the rod? Description seems off with 6.

Been looking for a new fishing pole for farm pond fishing and this looks to meet the requirements.
