Do not buy anything from TbV, they lie about their promotions and their support organization is horrific. Truly a terrible, customer-hostile company.

See more from another recent SD thread here: https://slickdeals.net/f/17520366-new-customers-total-by-verizon-bring-your-own-phone-and-get-unlimited-talk-text-data-50-off-for-12-months-enroll-by-7-31?v=1&p=171814725&posted=1&comment=success#post171814725
Oh, man, are you correct. I can't verify lying about the promos, but I just spent three hours in chat with three different reps to change from the $50 plan to the $40 plan. When I said to add in autopay, I ended up being charged $40 twice (two successive transactions). The third rep said someone will phone me about the overcharge (why not just remove it?) I'm porting out as soon as the 60-day timer runs out. I've been with Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, Visible, USMobile, and all were excellent; never experienced before what I experienced today with a cellular company.

Edited to add: And the initial contact was because I couldn't login to the Total.com account, and the password reset never arrived at my email account, though I got emails from Tracfone and SimpleMobile instead (the rep said they were "sister companies"). Finally got the password reset via SMS.

Total by V is not the same company/admin as Tracfone/StraightTalk right?
Both have 60 day unlock policy!
I had to deal with Total support today (see another post of mine for details if you want). They are Tracfone, SimpleMobile, and who knows what else. "Sister brands" according to the rep I chatted with :-)

I couldn't login or get the change password link via email, but ended up getting emails from both Tracfone and SimpleMobile instead. Total couldn't email me despite them having sent me emails a few weeks ago when I bought a phone and plan from them.

Not recommended unfortunately.

My A54 was the MetroPCS variant, but I waited until the 6-month SIM unlock happened and then flashed to U1.
Wondering what's the benefit to flash to U1. Was it mainly to get rid of Metro apps that cannot be uninstalled? Have never flashed a phone before and wondering if you can point to some instructions for how to do so. Thanks.

Flash factory XAA firmware once the phone unlocked and it should run flawlessly
By chance do you know if the bootloader is unlocked after the 6 months to flash the XAA firmware on it? Been looking at getting this phone, and the price is good.

For me, I default to U1 where available, in my experience U1 with XAA is the most debloated software (might have facebook or whatsapp on it by default). It doesn't include the carrier software that you can't uninstall or turn off.

Any idea which carriers/MVNOs this is compatible with once unlocked?

Phone lags and stutters. Due to Samsung bloatware and double apps. Motorola stylus is better choice
The latest updates fix that. I had an A54 and had the same laggy experience. Updates fixed it completely.

Phone is free but they charge you $55 for the privilege of doing business with them and giving them more money.

Anybody have problems buying the phone and can't buy the phone for free? Added a phone number, verified the phone number but in the cart I see the charge 279.99 no matter what phone number I added.

Um, of course? That's how free phones have always been?

Yes U1 firmware is generally best, and has better battery drain. Carrier fw has carrier IQ and other rogue apps.

Have you bought any phones from TBV recently?

I posted a few days ago. I couldn't get the discount because I bought two iPhone 11s two months ago. After I logged into my account, I got the message:

Unfortunately, this ID was already used to purchase the maximum number of devices allowed with this special discount.

Did you think they were in business to send you free phones?

I had the same issue, think it was because I selected the $55 plan first.. I had to go back and register with a different email and go through the whole process again, selecting the $65 plan and it worked fine..
