I will say that you should test this right when you get it under significant load. The one I bought worked fine under light load but doing the main thing I bought it for, it wouldn't Jack up.

Another thing folks could do is see if anyone has a USA made jacks on Craigslist or Facebook. Lots of them can be had for free.

I picked up a milk crate packed with USA made bottle jacks that were all frozen.

Got them for free and started rebuilding. Kits for most manufacturers are still available.

Parker and Walker and Werner in that crate.

Fun to rebuild then refinish. They bring good money as well.

Depends on how low your car sits and if you can get it under.

Good deal. The 12 ton seems like a great deal for $23.00, too!

serious question: What are these good for, i.e. acceptable to use given the tipping over risk? I keep the OEM scissor jacks in my cars, and have 2 floor jacks for home repairs. I can't figure out a use case for these bottle jacks on my own
I was going to ask the same question! I've seen these for sale through the years but could never figure out their explicit purpose.

Is this good to replace the standard jack that come with the car?
Definitely not as stable as the one that's on the car usually since you'll likely not be on a perfectly flat surface like your garage... Always put something that can catch the vehicle if the jack fails or slips out while under it...

You can add separate supporter items that can catch the vehicle if the jack fails like a short piece of a 18 inch truss beam or something sturdy. My dad did this as a backup always. Never trust any jack alone when under the vehicle.

If you ever need to mud jack or foam jack a concrete slab, you'll probably want to use a bottle jack

Maybe also for fixing a sinking deck post, now that you mention it

Can you share more info on how to do this?
So there are a lot of resources on the net for parts, Here is a video of a rebuild of a classic Blackhawk bottle jack - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NhB6Cw-K9w

I have done a few bottle jacks but mostly Hein-Werner 3-5 ton floor jacks, a couple of Lincoln jacks and a very old, cool Walker.

It is a really fun shop project and it doesn't cost a ton.

I got a 3 ton Hein-Warner for nothing. Hydraulics were frozen solid. I had to soak the whole hydraulic jack part in ATF to get it apart. It was made in the 60's and all the seals were still available.

I fully blasted the entire frame and handle and painted it Sunoco classic blue/yellow colors. It came out really nice.

I sold it for $400!

Yes will work fine for emergencies
It's too tall for a regular car with a flat tire .

Same use case as other type of jacks. Jack the vehicle onto a jack stand. Bottle jack is faster than scissors but slower (cheaper) than floor jacks.

The scissor jacks that came with my car collapsed because I was on a little bit of a grade when my tires went flat.

Not sure what I should replace it with other than another cheap scissor jack and hope for flat ground when I need it
These are heavy, waste of gas to carry

Good use case, done same here. Pouring the footings was the hardest part, 30" x 30" x 1' thick (soil bearing pressure low). It's amazing how much a house weighs. (Tornado disagrees, says "It's amazing how little a house weighs.")

bottle jacks are cheap. If I am lifting my car to work under, I would keep these along with stands for redundant support. They jack up cars much faster than a 2 ton jack.
