has anyone had an issue with not getting a service card pin?
Nobody gets a service card pin. The service plan is attached to the phone's IMEI and should automatically apply once the phone is activated as a new ST phone.

What's the gain?
wanted to use the service on a different phone that i use for work. use it mostly with wifi but would be nice to use the service while i paid for it instead of just letting the phone sit.

anyways, moot now, UPS stole the phone. received it an empty box yesterday. Straight Talk is terrible is no help. need to put a dispute with Paypal.

It certainly could have been UPS, but I've seen a few reports in these ST / Total threads of people receiving empty boxes now and then. I wonder if they might have a shady employee on their end who pockets the occasional phone and ships out an empty box instead.

could be, but the box was opened, only thing left was a charging cord. I don't think its the driver since its so easily traced back to them and I live in an apartment so the box was left in a locker so no one has access to it without an assigned code. Also doesn't help that straight talk's box indicates the IMEI and serial# on the box and advertises 90-day refurb warranty. I don't understand why they don't ship out in a discrete box.

Text UNLOCK to 611611 and it usually replies with the unlock date. Text it twice, as it doesn't always work the first time. Or you could just ask Google "what's 60 days from today" (or switch "today" with whatever date you activated it in the question). The unlock usually happens on day 59 or 60, but it can sometimes be a few days later (despite the text reply saying a particular date)

Placed order yesterday. Status changed to shipped today and got a UPS tracking number early afternoon. But UPS tracking is stuck at "label created" step since then. The status reads "UPS doesn't have possession of the package yet. Estimated delivery date will be available as soon as we get the package." Is this normal? I read some Reddit posts and folks mentioned that this resulted in lost packages for them.

Every phone I've purchased from TF/Total/ST has done that. They're on East Coast time so likely it was too late to actually get shipped out today. Don't expect movement til Mon/Tues, then 2 day UPS shipping. I've bought many phones from them over the years & never had one get lost.

Mine was unlocked out of the box, likely because it had first been used in November of 2023. I received it on Thursday and moved it to an AT&T family plan account today. Texting unlock to 611611 while on Straight Talk told me it would not be unlocked until sometime in November (60 days from my date of activation). However, I did not have any issues contacting AT&T and having them issue an eSIM for it.

Check Settings -> About and then scroll down to find Carrier Lock. If it says "No SIM restrictions" you are good to go and should be able to use with a different carrier.

Yeah, good point. Since these are refurbs, everyone should be checking that first since the phones may already be unlocked. No need to worry about what the text reply says or anything else if that's the case.

FYI there's a Citi offer for 10% back on StraightTalk orders that should knock another $10-12 off the order on the back end.

Unfortunately mine says SIM locked. No way to know when it will actually unlock other than SMS date.

All it does when you text Unlock to 611611 is reply with a date that's 60 days from the date of activation. That date isn't right in many instances and the actual unlock date is often somewhere between day 59 to day 63 (occasionally as late as day 65). That seems to be the case regardless of what the reply said. Calculating the 60 days yourself is just as reliable as receiving their text-back date, based on a lot of previous threads. There are also a lot of instances of the text back reply saying that the phone is already unlocked several days before it actually unlocks (again because the text-back reply is just giving a generic 60-day count while that's not the day it actually happens in some cases).
