I posted 10 wyze cams (various gens up to OG and latest doorbell) for $90 on craigslist. Not a single person has expressed interest. I'm dropping the price $10 as each week goes by and this box of wyze cams goes unsold. Was a faithful supporter since 2019. Just moved over to TP-Link Tapo. The Tapo app loads in just 1 second and ready to go instantly. The Wyze app loads in 3 seconds, and takes another 2 seconds to be usable (respond to taps). Now have 6 Tapo cams. I still have wyze home sensor v2 hub and door locks.

I've had Wyze cameras for over 5 years and never had one brick on me. I always update to latest firmware whenever prompted.

You can do this with anything - and a lot more - if you install pihole [pi-hole.net] at your home.

pihole is - by a wide margin - the best quality of life improvement for the lowest cost I've made in my network and I would encourage basically everyone to research it and get it.
  • It's a DNS for your network that acts as a black hole for suspect or bad requests
  • You use it by configuring a small Raspberry pi on your network and configuring your router to use it as your DNS rather than sending all requests out to the internet.
  • Its advertised purpose (which it does amazingly well) is to block ads. With it installed, everything on your network (all computers, all phones, even some other devices) which request ad data will have those requests dropped, and ads generally won't appear.
  • This can break some sites (they have ad blocking software detection configured to interfere with your browsing), but on the whole, it makes absolutely everything much, much, much better.
  • It can also be used to add entire domains to a blocklist -- I configured it to block traffic to certain countries [pi-hole.net] that I know I really never want to see and don't want traffic being sent to without my awareness.

This doesn't mean you should not care if Wyze try to offload data without you knowing, but I wanted to mention it. On my network, I run pihole on a Raspberri Pi Zero that I have plugged directly into my router and powered via USB.
ROFL. What if they just hard coded the DNS server into their firmware?

people hate wyze because they bait-and-switched, early on everything was free then they gradually added monthly fees

I've had 3 outdoor Wyze camera v3 brick in the past 20 days.
I think they are melting in the TX heat?

Wyze used to be the best, now a waste of money.

Just confirming, this does not support RTSP. Has anyone flashed these with CFW?
You don't need to flash firmware. Just use wyze docker bridge and data transfer will be local. Im using 4 wyze using docker bridge and no issues. Be aware of Tapo, TP-Link recently updated firmware and anything older than 1.3.8 or build 230921 is complete local, you still get rtsp but not any sensor data.

Not for anything though. If there's an ip to which device is communicating, it doesn't need dns.

Zero. I purposely haven't subscribed to anything. I got burned paying more and more per month per year for wyze cam unlimited until I was paying a hundred bucks a year for incomplete crap recordings. That's after being a kickstarter supporter for wyze and spreading the word to all my friends and coworkers. Disappointed. Anyway, Tapo has a cloud backup plan with "rich" notifications plan they call "tapo care" but I didn't subscribe (i now have trust issues!). The Tapo text-only notifications come to my phone in less than 1 second after detection. Then I can tap the notification and it pulls up the feed near instantly. I do wish they'd give us the rich notifications (notifications with a snapshot of what was detected) for free, or at least let me buy it separately without cloud backup.

I purchased OG earlier this year. It is much better than my old Wyze V2. I have two main issues with OG 1. SD card stops working after a week or so, require frequent reboot to fix this issue. Never had this issue on V2 cam. 2nd If Internet dies, it only records to SD card for 30 mins and then stops recording

Just FYI, List price on Amazon says $16.79 with 10% off for $15.15 for white. Not originally $25. Not much of a deal.

They have been averaging around $20 for non-prime members.

I prefer the v3.

OG says its supposed to allow live viewing on two devices, but regularly only allows one.

I haven't noticed issues on the v3.

Have had Waze for v2 cams and newer solar ect . I will not be buying Waze any more; their quality degrades every so often. I think in their updates they make the quality junk. When first bought; it looks good and high quality; bright colors and all; then becomes crap!

Same here. Surprisingly, they are very reliable considering the price.
