Usually the knock is that 365 subs through Amazon lock you into "management" by Amazon. So you can't go out and buy one from Newegg and stack it.

I bought one. Already had a Microsoft 365 Family subscription in my Amazon account from last year that has not expired yet (and it would auto renew). Instead of stacking the new one shows up separately and says activate subscription. I redeemed the key in my Microsoft account. Waiting to see if Amazon merges the two together.

EDIT: It stacked on an existing subscription that was already managed by Amazon, expiration was extended another 12 months. Took 10-15 minutes to be updated after activating.

They'll probably have it provided by the college included with their fees. If not, the educational version of this service would likely be cheaper. Regardless, it's worth checking with the IT department(s) at your kids' school(s).

Yes. It activated and there was still two showing at Amazon with the new one staying activate. Then 10-15 minutes later they were combined two one and expiration pushed out another 12 months.
Thank you for guiding us through this! Confirmed and took about 5 minutes to merge and extend.

This turned auto-renewal back on (I had canceled the last one) so be sure to put something in your calendars to cancel before it renews.

Who's brave enough to attempt stacking more than one subscription?

see y'all in 2026

Just purchased assuming that it would extend my subscription. Turns out my current subscription is Microsoft Office 365 Home, but this did stack just as I was writing this comment.

I panicked first because I saw two activated (previous still valid one and this one I just bought) subscriptions going on at the same time. And it shows the new one will end on 07-16-2025. But it Indeed stacked AUTOMATICALLY after 10 minutes. I'm glad I stared at the monitor and waited. You can buy with a peace of mind and don't have to panic.

Maybe not the best price per month for this but I'm already with Amazon and cheap enough that I went ahead and bought it to extend my subscription. That way I don't have to worry about finding a deal around when my current subscription will expire.

Be sure you are logged into your microsoft account on your web browser, then click activate from the eamil Amazon sent you, or from the "manage subscriptions " page on amazon. If you dont click activate, it wont work.

This is a family plan so you get 6 accounts - yours and 5 family members. 4 subscriptions may be excessive.
6 x 1tb = 6tb? i thought 1tb storage is all for 6 members combined. but the other thread mentioned its 1tb free for each member.

I recall buying O365 subs from Dell, Staples, NewEgg over the years and was able to change to keys bought from other vendors. IIR when you "buy" your license the vendor sets you up for continuing through them, but don't recall there was anything stopping me from loading in a new one from elsewhere, might have been when that license expired. Microsoft licensing is confusing and has always made postal calculations seem simple.

Oh ok. Didn't know that. Okay in that case. Thank you.
Yeah, school is fine for Office products but if you want the Onedrive which is backup that carries with you through life eventually you will lose access (mine shrunk from 1gb to 100tb ) and admins have access to your files.

Family is 6TB total. 1TB each. You can combine account storage by creating dummy accounts and sharing a folder

Edited to correct accidentally typing GB instead of TB
