Lots of options out there, but CalDigit has been really reliable.
I have tried Anker, OWC, and Plugable. They were all hot garbage.

All do not provide consistent charge, instead the power to the host drops when you attach peripherals. IT SUCKS WHEN YOU'RE ON THE PLANE, EXPECT 100% BATTERY AND ONLY HAVE 30%.

My laptop is my livelihood, and I don't like interruptions. Especially, if it is a dock. I am willing to spend a bit more for peace of mind. Plus, their support is exceptional, and helped me out of a few jams.

Oh, I can answer this. So our office issues all employees Macbook Pros and wanted to get us docks so we can just plug into our workstation and go. I was tasked with finding the right kind of MBP and dock to buy. So I got to try out one of all of them. We bought OWC, Elgato, Wavlink, CalDigit and Anker (*Anker was USB-C, the rest were TB).

And CalDigit was by far the best. No hassles, no nonsense, no need to unplug and replug external displays to get them to rewake (huge issue with our Wavlinks and no, it wasn't using DisplayLink). The CalDigit was the one that "just worked". No devices disconnecting, no PD issues, nothing. It just worked.

So yeah, if you want the best, the CalDigit is it. We were also able to work out a good price with them directly because we needed 25 units. And their sales and support team are reachable by phone and they are all US based in California and they are totally awesome.

for this amount, why don't' you just buy any number of OEM TB4 dock? sure you may not have UHS-2, but that's isn't something a dongle couldn't resolve.

that's my issues with all the cheaper dock as well, they never truly work reliably, sometime not charging at max rate, sometimes video out doens't work, sometimes the transfer speed drop, sometimes require replug.

but for 175 dollar, you can actually get lenovo or HP TB4 dock for cheaper, that's why i don't think this deal makes any sense whatsoever.

Not sure about HP, but Lenovo docks are some of the worse. They just go with the cheapest OEM and ODM.

I think these are good options because PC companies sometimes lock TB features, so it works specifically with their docks. For example I had an XPS for work, and Dell had locked 98 watts of power delivery.

I am on Mac most of the time, and the TS3 Plus has worked really well for me.

Funny that as a ThinkPad user, I actually opted for the CalDigit TS3 instead of the Lenovo docks due to its reliability. It uses high quality components such as Intel NIC and Delta AC adapter.

Caldigit docks are really high quality. My TS3 has been in used for over 8 hours a day for the last 4 years and still going strong.

It is good quality device, still running for couple of years with my MacBook pro M1. The main problem is that not passing through high-speed Ethernet at all. Had to yours built-in wifi.

My ethernet works well on my TS3 Plus with my MBP. It sounds like yours is faulty, which is too bad.

I've also added a 2.5 gbps USB-C ethernet adapter to the dock that also works great.

I wonder if this would be enough wattage for a MacBook Pro 16" M3 Pro in many usage scenarios?

I have a 16" M1 Pro using this dock and it works perfect. I don't have any complaints. I use it as work for at least 3 years now with no issues.

Not to threadcrude but:
- I had a TS2 for a long time. I always looked to upgrade to the TS3 but was always surprised about the price.
- I had some issues with the TS2 - especially ethernet and Apple Superdrive - though CalDigit did provide firmware updates.
- My TS2 just stopped working. I have no clue why - just stopped. Sure I've had this hub for a long time - and it was fine. I really didn't tax the hub much.

I ended up buying this hub:

Amazon.com: Sonnet Echo 20 Thunderbolt 4 SuperDock : Electronics
https://www.amazon.com/Sonnet-Ech...trxai28-20

I think it's much better than even the TS4. Definitely better than the TS3.

Okay what am I missing here. Only a single display port and no other video out? Not a single hdmi? Are they assuming we all have daisy chainable displays?

DisplayPort and Thunderbolt to HDMI adapters if your monitors do not support those natively.
