i too have experienced amp failure with this. it is a well documented issue as noted by all the people above, yet it will still get front page status as SD promotes these advertisements.
My buddy is a small regional distributor and it's around %15 for him which is ridiculous. Go check AVS these are just as bad as those monolith subs ( 1st Gen)
The amp is pure junk on these, but I guess you could put it on a CC that will give you an extra 1 year warranty to make it 3 years then role the dice if the amp did not blow up by then... Trust me it will..
I got one of these at the $449 FP price. Outer box was a bit banged up and there was a "tip of my thumb" sized gouge in the back of the cabinet. Was able to get a partial refund of $50.
It really adds a lot of feel to our livingroom viewing. Watched some Star Trek movies and you can actually "feel" the ships flying around. I was getting a nice massage in our recliner.

Is it general use why the amps fail or due to turning base high? If I use it for a theater room that will never be excessively loud, would it last longer?...I'm tempted on this + seeing it $50 cheaper from 17 days ago has me thinking hard about it. Any thoughts- please chime in.

cheap parts. read the forums. low quality resistors, relays, goes into protection mode, etc. look for a different brand. at this price point the RSL10S is a good option.
The price is nice but amp failures are notrious for these older models, I would only recomend the RP subs from klipsch, those are the news model, complete redesign and new amp.

I got a free one with the dead amp. My repaired amp will be here tomorrow. The amps die because of cheap components and they are not "designed" to be left on/sleep mode constantly.
