For those who might have had this in the past, the $250 credit is no longer a statement credit but a voucher to use in the Capital One portal. The portal is run by Hopper and is absolutely terrible for searching. If you search for 3 people in 1 room and you will get rooms with one bed and an occupancy limit of 2 people. There is also no way to have it sort to include additional fees and taxes - you just get the base rate until you select your room and then they add all the other charges. Even if you're using points, you get charged additional points at reservation to cover the tax. There can be a limited selection of hotels in some areas, with many common brands missing (compared to Booking or Agoda, or even the major flag portals like Bonvoy or Hilton). The prices are nearly always higher in the Hopper/CapOne portal than one of the major 3rd party (Booking/Priceline/Travelocity/Agoda/Expedia/Kayak meta) site for both hotels and cars, and ofter more expensive than booking direct. IMHO, if you're going to roll the dice booking 3rd party, you should be getting a better rate. If you use points for other than travel (statement credit) you get 1/2c per point, so it really is a travel-centric reward system. /end rant

Other than that it's a decent card and the Eno one-time/one-vendor card numbers are very helpful.
I have had this card for a year and there has not been a single deal or opportunity for the points.
Same. 800+ credit score and got rejected twice.

I'm not very savvy on these credit card deals.

I currently have the Chase Sapphire Preferred and we use the points for flights to visit our son in Texas.

Since I mainly will use this for flights, should i wait for a deal on a different card, like the Venture X?
You can apply for Venture X. I have multiple chase cards along with Venture X. They have different benefits. If your home airport is Dallas DFW, the I would close my eyes and apply for the card as it provides access to their capital one lounges which are pretty cool. You can recoup the value through their 300 $ credit + 10 k points each year and priority pass access as well apart from Capital one lounges. Please reach out if you need referral. Happy to share.

You mean like a bonus to transfer to other programs?

I'm surprised that no one called out the fact or even on the DOC site that cap1 doesn't have any Marriott/Hilton/hyatt /ihg travel partners like Chase.

I found out hard way after I got the spark miles and only transfer partners are airlines
Agree. This card is BS. After paying the $400 annual fee for Venture X, the signup bonus and global entry credit wasn't worth it (I already have global entry with 4 more years validity). The search engine to book travel sucks.

I have a few trips coming up so I decided to go for it. Approved on the spot and given a virtual card to use immediately.

I'll take the free money all day.

Same here, missed the cut off date by one day.
Any idea about cancelling and reapplying the card?

This is a good card to get the bonus at 1 cpp and cancel. Venture is no where near a premium card.

I got the Venture X ~ 6 mo after launch. I downgraded the regular Venture card to a Venture One card several years ago.

I was able to get this card after they did a profile review.

I don't have any CapitalOne card and was debating if I should get Venture card or Venture X. I have an excellent credit score of 830+ and also have Chase Sapphire Preferred for hotels etc. Which card would you suggest I should get? I don't travel very much just one international trip every one or two years and probably one domestic trip per year. I am applying the card mostly for sign up bonus points/miles but I do like lounge access though. I was wondering if I should apply for Venture card, get the points, downgrade to Venture One or something else a year later and then apply for Venture X or vice versa. Not sure if it is realistic to get additional $300 worth of benefits from Venture X to make up for the annual fee difference. Just wanted to know your perspective as you have both the cards. TIA

This is just not true. You can absolutely transfer to travel partners with the Venture. I have the card. For those who don't know what to do with your points, look into 10x Travel. I have cruised, flown business class, gotten hotels, etc. with my points. Done properly, it'll be worth much more than $1000.
Is that some kind of travel blog/site 10x travel?

My biggest gripe with this card is only 1 hotel partner and like others have said the $250 is really worth $200 technically but i see what ppl are recommending, to call in and price match with 24 hours... how many of us SD'ers have done it here?

They have a website, facebook group, etc. The biggest travel hacking group that I know of, but there's a million out there, including capital one oriented. Highly recommend checking out for maximizing point value.

You are confusing transfer travel partners (for the points) with the statement credit. Almost all the hotels are on the travel portal for you to redeem that $250, but yes I have noticed that the travel portal is more expensive (that's pretty typical with all the credit cards). Your real value is going to come from the points, not the cash back. While the hotel options are limited there, I find flights to be a better deal anyway. AirFrance is a transfer partner and I flew to France this summer for about 50k points and $300 in lay flat business. Another unique redemption (since Virgin is a transfer partner), whenever Virgin offers the free European cruise deal, this sign up bonus could easily be worth $6k.

Wow thanks, i'll look into the last 2 transfer partners, that seems good.

Both cards 'pay' for themselves with annual 10k points and with the X, you get a $300 travel credit.
Probably for now, it makes sense to take advantage of the regular Venture card and the promo they have for it.

Definitely get Venture X for both long term since it's essentially free $5 per year to keep the card.

This Venture offer is good to get the 1k value if you don't mind having to try to upgrade in year 2 to Venture X or having to apply for Venture X then canceling the Venture after.
So, the best strategy for 2 players is keeping Venture X from Year 2 on, one way or another?
