Does it support Linksys Velop Mesh technology?
No. This model does not support Linksys Mesh; it is a standalone router only.

Can I use the Linksys app with the Linksys MX4300 (LN1301)?
No. This router does not support Linksys cloud services; therefore, the Linksys app is not supported.
Looks like someone was able to get OpenWRT [openwrt.org] working on this router model.
Ok, so I got mine and fiddled with it. First, this is a very easy router to unbrick so go ahead and fiddle with the firmware all you want. Unfortunately I was unsuccessful in installing the linksys mx4200v1 firmware as well as installing openwrt for mx4200v1. On openwrt the light turned purple but I couldn't ssh into the router. I guess it can't be hacked into a mesh. Went ahead and purchased the slickdeal mx8000 refurbished that was just posted and will be returning these. Good luck to all and please do post on any different outcomes. Obviously $25 a node for a 4.2gbps Wi-Fi 6 mesh would be a spectacular bargain.

Just bought one - it's getting here in a couple days though. Will try flashing OpenWRT and report back.
That would be greatly appreciated!

Does dd-wrt allow configuring
1. A distinct ssid for the 2.4ghz?
2. Multiple guest networks?

Curiously, the retail [ebay.com] and white box [ebay.com] packages show "[Powered by] Linksys Intelligent Mesh"

I bought this refurb Linksys Velop AC2200 3-pack mesh router (model WHW03) when it made SD in May 2022 for $100 (!), mainly due to OpenWRT support (with limitations) and wired backhaul. These routers depreciate to almost nothing when they reach EOL. And I still don't have a single .ax device at home -- even my latest Moto G Power 5G 2024 phone is still .ac.
The packages in both links you've provided show the model as MX4301; you can see the different model number on the boxes in both listings (although for whatever reason, the pictures of the router for the white box listing is showing MX4300). According to webpage specs, MX4301 has working USB / Mesh / WPS, etc., and is marketed at corporate remote work. Looks like a cash grab targeted at businesses looking for WFH solutions. I wonder if this one is literally just a rebranded AX4200 without stripping out any functions.

The intentional radiator portion of the 4200 maybe the same and the digital portion could be completely different. FCC compliance is compulsory but registration with FCC for unintentional radiators is not required. It is possible Linksys used the exact radio design for the intentional radiator portion per the flinging and they self declared compliance for the digital portion which might be different.

purely speculation on my part.
Possible. The differences would be pretty limited though.
The SOC is part of the intentional radiator since part of the WiFi functions are built into it. There's not much to change outside SoC and other Wi-Fi related parts.

I think the main risk of openwrt not working will be if they locked the bootloader to prevent trying to remove the fw restrictions.

also curious to find out the result, as I just recently bought the 3 pack deal from Prime day deal.

Looks like 25 * 3 is a even better deal if their were the same hardware (assume can be flashed with the same mesh supported software).

The original price listed on SD is $100 but the original price listed on Amazon is $29.99. Which is closer to the current real world value?

Well, in for three. My Belkin RT3200 (Linksys E8450) running OpenWRT is still going strong, but there are a few spots the signal drops in 2500sqft. Hopefully this unit will work with OpenWRT and have better coverage.

There is no official OpenWRT support for this device per it's model name, but it appears to be identical to the MX4200, which is recently supported. I suspect this needs minimal changes to be supported, if it doesn't work already.

You can also buy on Walmart (see above) and Amazon directly

Here's the OpenWRT thread

https://forum.openwrt.org/t/openw...200/86477/

This seems like a good OpenWRT device.

Note that I DO NOT recommend casual normies buy this unless they plan on using OpenWRT. This device is being dumped by Linksys because it's End of Life/End of Support.
Just curious as a normie, what is bad about using a router at end of life? I'm running pretty old routers that I've never updated firmware for.

Patching security vulnerabilities. End of life means no patches. They can range from small to severe. Think security updates for your phone or computer. Occasionally you get bug fixes and feature enhancements too. You can generally keep it on auto-update for newer routers that get still updates and not have to worry much.

Seems like the 10% OFF code at woot for 7/20 should be combinable to get with $2.50 off the price.

Is this any good? Like if you bought 3?
No, this is not the same as the Linksys Velop, even though it looks like it. This is a standalone router, it does NOT do Mesh network technology and cannot be added to, or used in place of, any Linksys mesh-enabled systems.

It's a Linksys, so don't act surprised when you have to reset the router once a day. How the mighty have fallen!

This router has been out since March 2024 and no new firmware updates have been released. Not sure if Linksys updates often because it's not like this router doesn't have security holes.

I will never understand where the Linksys hate comes from. I have been using a Velop network for the last 6 years and before that a linksys standalone router and I've never had issues. I have dozens of connected devices and am on a VPN for work 24/7 and do a ton of gaming. Never had an issue. Linksys is great
