They are all the same. There are only 3 to 4 big factories in China producing these. All brands are just buying from the factories.

Their panels are not the good ones as quality monitor brand but ok. The plaatic structure is the main problem. None of them will survive if you jump a lot.

I bring mine in a backpack everyday on campus. My portable monitor is a no name brand from Amazon, but they are all the same, as the other post said. I use a very specific orientation in my backpack to keep the monitor protected. Laptop in it's sleeve then the screen in front, then a rigid notebook or folder followed by whatever else you want to toss in. I have a metal laptop stand, portable battery, cables, chargers, I carry everything. I'm using a Herschel backpack so nothing fancy, but I do have more expensive $90 backpacks that just aren't as fashionable.

$115 at B&H Photo. No tax if you have their store credit card. So in theory, it'll only be about 5-10% more to buy from a retailer where you KNOW you won't be getting a counterfeit.

Also, it's $100 at Walmart too. And they don't commingle their inventory!

Will it last in a backpack? I travel a fair bit and I see some not-name-brand monitors at the same price and the reviews all pretty much say that they can't handle a backpack

I would say it really depends on how it is in the backpack and treated. Is it going to be placed loose inside in a $8 walmart backpack (gloried bag with a zipper filled with tumbling objects) kicked under a subway seat 10 times a day or carried with care in a laptop backpack snuggled up to a laptop adding rigidity? A $800 tablet might not survive the first scenario but I bet you could carry around a piece of tempered glass for months / years before it broke in the second.

The Asus ZenScreen I have (1080p) has a metal back, not plastic. Not to say this one is or isn't (does it say?).

These screens are very easy to crack or damage regardless of how careful you may be, especially when when traveling . Mishaps are easy to have. As far as using a ipad as a second screen I don't find that to be the case. I use a ipad pro and would rather have a dedicated screen, which requires no charging and unless you already have an iPad a significant cost over a portable screen. YMMV!

Maybe a solution to the breaking is a another case just to protect the screen?

I see the ipad suggestions, but those are smaller and way more expensive

While this might be the case with most off-brand models, I have to say that this specific ASUS model has much better color reproduction than some of the off-brand models I have tried. I have tried multiple monitors in the past and despite some of the off-brand ones having feature like touch capabilities, in-build speakers, etc., they all look far more washed out and dull compared to this IPS display.

This is a decent deal, just know in a sense you're getting what you pay for. This is a 6 bit color panel. I've owned one of these in the past and it looked noticeably worse compared to the much more commonly found 8 or 10 bit color panels.

Got any deals on a 10 bit panel?

I was looking for an answer like this. I too bought off brand portable monitors but their color was way off!

Didn't think 6 bit was even a thing. I think you mean 8 bit
