good price for brand name, but just as a heads up these types of portable monitors are a dime a dozen on amazon; just look for the specs you want (resolution, refresh, ips, etc.) and are routinely ~$50 for basic 1080p ips panels, although usually with a coupon

FYI not all USB type c cables work with these. USB 2 cables only have 4 pins, so definitely not. A lot of USB 3 cables are missing the required pins. If they advertise DP or video then you're good, otherwise it's a crapshoot.

Used acceptable for $63.19, gonna give it a shot with free returns. I've had good luck in the past.

It's also $89.99 at a number of other sellers if you don't like Amazon.

I believe the display out on a switch only works with external power so this would not work directly with a switch. You may be able to get it to work with an external dock and power source.

Besides from the brand name, can anyone tell me a reason to buy this over one of the hundreds of much, much cheaper options?

The color is way off on the cheap non brand. Get a this for a better color and well known monitor brand.

Brightness and colors are slightly better on this.

Tripod mount, flicker-free, low blue light. Auto rotate with software on Windows.

On the other hand, it's not the lightest for its size, and has no HDMI if connecting to a Raspberry Pi / Switch is your thing.

More specifically, a speed of 10 Gbps is sufficient for video transfer, 20 Gbps is adequate for a USB-C dock, and 40 Gbps is capable of handling all common functions (note that I'm not saying Thunderbolt 4).

Why don't most of these type of portable monitors have HDMI? It seems like a very basic thing to add. I'm not clear why they mostly only have USB type C input. Can someone explain?

I don't know about the colors but brightness on the Asus is only 250 cd/m2, which isn't any better than other generic monitors that I looked at. I'm also not a fan of this monitor's flimsy case/stand vs others with built-in stands, and this only has 1 port compared to others with multiple USB-C & HDMI ports. I like Asus but this is a meh for me, and ended up going with a third party brand with more features (including touchscreen, metal body, tempered glass screen, built-in speakers, more ports) for around $100, and there are plenty without touchscreen & metal case for around $50.

Most other monitors do have more ports. The ones I looked at have 2 USB-C & 1 HDMI port (although the HDMI might be a mini vs a full port). The one I ended up going with has a full HDMI port, 2 USB-C ports, and a USB-A 3.0 port, however I can't link to it due to Slickdeals rules.
