Imagine thinking that belittling someone over their shoe size was a flex. Grow up.

You clearly haven't worn Altras. The idea (which is correct) is that in normal shoes, even wides, our feet are crammed into shoes for aesthetics. Altras are shaped like your feet.

sadly Altra quality has dropped while their prices have gone up. probably not as much an issue with their road-runners as with their trail-runners. that said, quality at this price is well worth purchasing.
Now to see/decide which of my current Altras I'll be replacing.

Not seeing anything in wide for men. Bummer. Defeats the purpose of a wide toe box for many if one's foot is still crammed in there.

Decent prices and colors here, in for some Torin for my 13yo. He's a convert…and realized his Air Jordans were too "fragile" for normal daily activity. Creases and all that Wink

How do these compare with other well know running shoes brands (brooks, NB, etc)?

I like them because all (or most) are zero drop, with varying degrees of cushioning. For trail running, they're pretty dominant — I did a 9/18-mile race this weekend and Altra was 50-60% of all the shoes out there (mostly the Lone Peak). And the only shoe sponsor Smilie

Once I found Altra several years ago, I don't even mess with the wide variety of stuff from the other brands, it's too much marketing and the quality varies widely. Altra is pretty consistent.

Are these like Altra's answer to Hoka's? I have a pair of minimalist Altra's and I like them save the ludicrously long laces.

I have a pair of regular Altra's and the toe box is sufficient whereas brands like Nike or Adidas squeeze my pinkie toe under it's neighbor.

Sounds like others share my experience.

Why can't I find mens 5.5 or 6 anywhere?

US size? Typically 7.5 or 8 are the smallest men's sizes. Smaller than that would be considered kids.

From previous deal thread: I had the Torin 6s for 300 miles & I think they were toast probably 50 miles before that. I run 3-5 miles per day and they were really comfortable for the first 100-200 miles, then I noticed slight shin splints during the last 100 miles. I track my runs with my garmin so mileage is fairly accurate. For $50-60, seems like a fair trade, however, I just bought some Asics Dynablast 3 for the same price and they are rated for longer life. Could be my running style, but at the same price, I felt like looking for other brands.

New comment: $75 for these seems too high right now for what you get. The general consensus around Altra is that they wear and die fairly quickly, so for a $75 shoe, its not worth it. If they go on a deeper sale, say sub $60, its more worth it.

I have. Reread what I wrote. They make models that come in wide. These are "normal" sizes with a wide toe box; they make wide toe box + wide width.

It's because you simply need a wide toe box; some people need a wide size + wide toe box.
