Very bad warranty on tosot brands, we have a unit where the compressor is leaking from top, and we've been waiting for tosot to source the part and ship it to the distributor to have our unit fixed and it's been months of contact and all we can do is wait. It's just been a waiting game so far. So a more reputable and represented brand for heating and cooling would be more preferable.

The unit is precharged in the sense that the refrigerant comes with the unit. It's locked away in the outdoor unit. You have to install both units and make the lineset connections between the two, which are at normal atmosphere with moisture inside them, and evacuate the lines, and then you release the refrigerant. There is Mr Cool, which provides a system where you wouldn't need to vacuum the line, but they cost more and seem to have a similar level of dependability. You can borrow vacuum and manifold gauge sets from Autozone for free through their loaner program. I did an install last month for a Costway unit and the vacuum process wasn't bad at all

Do you need a hvac person to install this?

Do you need to run plumbing from the indoor unit to the external one?

Good price, this is equivalent to the Gree Livo Gen 4 which would usually run 2x the price. Still wish they would get some more of the ultra / hyper heat models with lower prices though.
Same reason I've been holding off buying these since I'm in the northeast and the heat pump needs to be a heating replacement for an oil fired furnace.

I think the point of this one is to get a cheap DIY option. To get the 30% up to $2k back you need to have a professional installer which is going to cost $4500.

most of the time local rebates do require profesional and proof of installation but Federal does not. just need to keep receipt of purchases

Ahhhh, and there it is. The rebate isn't for you, it's a kickback to the hvac industry.

The size of the unit doesn't increase the complexity of the HVAC portion of the install. If you can DIY the small mini splits, you can DIY the bigger ones.

You do, however, likely need to pull a permit to run a new 220v outlet. New copper can run $500+ depending on gauge and length of run, but converting an existing outlet might also be an option.

If you can't DIY the electrical, hire an actual electrician and keep the HVAC guys out of it.

Total cost should be nowhere near $4500.

You have not installed one of these before, have you?

You have to evacuated the line becasue the low and high pressure lines to the indoor unit is not pressureized and will have moist in them.

Evacuation of the line will also test for leak in case you make a bad connection.
I've installed a precharged unit before.
Didn't evac.
Still running strong after three years.
