I just made this purchase. I love these 17" LG Gram laptops. I am using one that I purchased at Costco about 4 to 5 years ago. I purchased two of them when they were posted here refurbished from Woot. My wife uses one, and my boss uses the other. The one I just bought will be a nice upgrade to my original purchase.

These are not gaming computers. These are good for general computing, office computing and travel. Yes, travel - the thing is big but lighter than any 13" laptop I have seen so it is excellent for travel. It is so nice to have a 17" 2K screen in a form factor this light. If you use a computer on your lap while on a sofa for any length of time, the fact that this is only 3 lbs makes it easy to move, pick up, and reposition.

It is fast, reliable, has good battery life, and has a backlit keyboard; I use USB-C charging with an Amazon-purchased magnetic breakaway attachment.

It does get plenty warm on the underside. Mine does not have vents on the bottom, which I like because I can sit it on a pillow without blocking airflow, but I have seen some of the newer models, and they have vents on the bottom, so I will have to adjust.

They are extremely light for a 17" laptop, i got one from Costco six months ago (frontpage). especially considering the magnesium shell enclosure. It is WAY lighter than my 16" Lenovo Yoga i bought yesterday from BestBuy (i think it was also frontpage) also with an aluminum shell enclosure.

I think why they said "funny" was because people buy Gram for lightweight portability. 17" is large and take a larger bag to carry it in, and it's 3lbs, which may be light for a 17" but isn't light for people who travel a lot and want something very lightweight. Add the power adapter and you're probably close to 4lbs.
Funny thing is, I have my work laptop bag with my surface laptop 5 in it, I'm able to throw my 17" gram in the pocket right next to it too. I barely notice when it's in my bag. Great for those longer trips when you don't want to view pr0n on your work machine.

How long battery lasts on full charge with normal browsing or coding ?
clicking on the link and going into "all specs" an answered questions from LG indicates 14 - 17 hrs of battery life per charge.

It doesn't say in the specs (im a little surprised) but does anyone know the brightness of the screen in nits?

TIA

Could you please check if it's actually aluminum, and not magnesium alloy?
It is magnesium. This is a very lightweight laptop - at 17 inches its weight is about the same as 13 inches MacBook Air. I have an old one from 2021 and I'm very happy with it, the best laptop I ever had (and I had many).

Not only this, but the battery life on our (aging) 14" Gram is absolutely phenomenal. I'd imagine though that the bigger screen reduces battery life a bit more though... Only thing I don't like is lack of bios/firmware updates, seems like LG doesn't care about post-sales ownership?

60hz. Keyboard is average. TouchPad one of the worst mainly because of the stupid location. Overall good laptop with a mouse.
trackpad a little rough on these. Very delicate imo. Guess its good it comes w mice.

Except for on hardware, I'd prefer a company get it right up front. Good products "shouldn't" need firmware updates in the long run. Of course new vulnerabilities are discovered, etc. But I'm more concerned with OS updates than hardware - as long as the machine works. Just like the people who get upset when their 4k samsung TV with a great picture stops getting updates. The TV works, right?

No. Every time you see the RAM is "LPDDR5X", that infers that it's soldered as there is no such thing as LPDDR5X memory modules.

Nits? This is the laptop world's version of manufacturers faking 120hz on TVs.
